Outlook 2010 versus outlook365

Hello

I have been using Microsoft office 2010 for years, including Microsoft Outlook.

Earlier this evening I was trying to set up a laptop, with a trail

of Microsoft 365. I copied the settings from Microsoft Outlook 2010 on my desktop to Microsoft 365 on my laptop. But365 would not accept the settings. I looked up the help on the on the plus net website and admittedly the recommended ports are different (although the old ones should still work).

Any advice?

Thanks

Re: Outlook 2010 versus outlook365

Cheers for getting in touch,

With email clients, it could well be that the 365 outlook is disagreeing with the email service, I would try with the recommended ports to see if that helps though, the ports are different depending on the security you choose. If Outlook doesn't play ball see if ThunderBird works any better for you.

Re: Outlook 2010 versus outlook365

Hello

I have already tried each of the ports, as per the plus net documentation for Microsoft Outlook.

I am reluctant to change clients, because I am familiar with Outlook but more importantly it is compatible with my speech recognition software.

Thanks

Re: Outlook 2010 versus outlook365

@wheels496 Did you let Outlook configure itself automatically? If you did, I suspect it has made assumptions about certain settings to 'try and help you'.

I'm not familiar with the program having used TBird for many, many years, but I seem to recall that it makes certain assumptions about your email address and the servers &c which are wrong.

I understand you can set it up manually, and correct its assumptions, but exactly how this is done, I am not sure.

Re: Outlook 2010 versus outlook365

I have had 365 for a while now, abd seem to remember it only needed the email address and password and 365 sorted all the settings..

That said, I don't have a PN email, but an MSN and BT ones.

@Mustrum Long time since this cropped up previously for someone with PN email, and I seem to remember the 'non-standard' PN format caused Outlook to make some wrong assumptions as to email servers and suchlike, but I honestly can't remember well enough to give definitive answers.

Hi there, what are the old and new ports you're referring to?

Also are you using the settings from Here?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
