On The Greenby Plusnet Thing

Hi,

So, I got the email that I assume everyone else got saying that my <userid>@<userid>.plus.com email is being migrated to Greenby.

Apart from logging on to my router or my account to check bills and stuff I don't use it... I use other services for all my email so my first question is: do I need to opt in, opt out/do nothing?

Trustpilot rates Greenby at 2.2 out of 5 with "Consumers frequently shared major issues with email delivery, noting that messages often failed to send, disappeared, or got lost entirely after being migrated to the new platform" amongst other issues.

It occurs to me that this must surely constitute a change to my terms and conditions so my second question is: can I cancel (without penalty) my existing contract and find someone else who isn't using Greenby?

James

Re: On The Greenby Plusnet Thing

If you use alternative email services, I suggest you change the contact email on your account to an address you do use, and then let the Greenby account lapse, although it is a 'free' service for two years  if you are a current Plusnet customer.

This is not a change to your terms and conditions as Plusnet reserve the right to amend or move services to alternative providers at their discretion.

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think you will find an ISP that offers an email service along side providing broadband any more.

Re: On The Greenby Plusnet Thing

Opting in or out depends on the wording of the email.

The default for most of the programme has been migrate unless you opt out.

The programme is moving towards the end, dealing with little used accounts (possibly like yours) where the default is to NOT migrate them unless you opt in.

Start with these -

  1. A&A
  2. Aquiss
  3. Freeola
  4. CIX

@ExForce9

There are a few if you dig ... but do we really advocate using one's ISP for email services?

Given the disposition of folks to behave like butterflies, flitting from one ISP to another every 12 to 24 months, is it really wise using an ISP for email, which requires longevity, beyond the typical loyalty to a brand?

Re: On The Greenby Plusnet Thing

@Townman

You are making the assumption that other ISPs that offer email will 'trap' the customer (like Plusnet did) by forcing the customer's email address to be a sub-domain of the ISP,  therefore making changing ISP a nightmare if you then have to change all your email contacts.

All the ISPs I listed above with email services also provide domain registration, so you can have any available domain for your ISP hosted email address, and therefore in future you could choose to transfer the domain to a different registrar and move the email handling to another service, independently from where you choose to get your broadband provisioned.

As it happens, I do use the A&A email service, because like everything A&A it works faultlessly, and allows you to do niche things that other consumer grade email providers prohibit.

Re: On The Greenby Plusnet Thing

I`ve just posted this > In the "General Chat" section but await a reply. So I`m copying it here too as I have a Gmail account email.

"Quote" - Hi Everyone. I`m a little confused.... I have a Google/Gmail account and had an email from Plusnet regarding Greenby and why I need to switch to them. Fact is, I don`t have a tied in Plusnet email account? Never have. Plusnet send me monthly billing emails (using my gmail address) that show my contracted monthly payment and the date it will be taken by Direct Debit. Which I can check in my Plusnet account page anyway.

I know members who had a free Plusnet email account were notified to switch away to Greenby but because I never had one, why have I received this email when I use Gmail? Can I just ignore it? I`m worried now that I`m being asked to change something when Gmail has nothing to do with Plusnet?

Just wanted to get a yes or no answer on it from those who, like myself, have Gmail accounts. Can I just ignore this `opt in` thing? I have no desire to change anything and probably won`t.
