Keeping force9 email when ending plusnet subscription

I’m changing my broadband from Plusnet to Fusion fibre at the end of the month. I have been with plusnet since the beginning when they were Force9. I am Only changing because the copper BT line to my house is constantly failing and I will have a new fibre connection to my router. I was assured by both Fusion Fibre and Plusnet that I would be able to keep my Force9 email before I signed up. Today I was told by Plusnet that this is not the case and my email will be terminated. This is a potential disaster for me and I wouldn’t have changed providers if I had been told this before. It also doesn’t fit with some of the threads I have been reading here. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Ollie

@Jollyolly

Is it too late to cancel your new contract with alternative ISP?

It's unfortunate timing - PN are in the process of moving email to a third party supplier but it's being done in batches. If your email hasn't been migrated yet then yes you will lose it by leaving,

If it has been migrated (or once it's been moved) then you can leave PN and keep your email for £15 a year with Greenby.

Given that Plusnet have misinformed you,

I wonder if @dave has the means to priority migrate your email over to Greenby before your Plusnet account disappears ?

@Jollyolly what is your last day with Plusnet ?

Re: Keeping force9 email when ending plusnet subscription

Plan B -

You could go ahead with the AltNet installing your FTTH line and service,

and NOT cancel your Plusnet account, until your email has been safely migrated over to Greenby.

You would be paying for two broadband services for the overlap period, but at least you wouldn't lose your Force9 email.

Hopefully the email migration to Greenby will be done in a few months.

@Townman

you seem to have some inside knowledge on the Greenby email migration,

do you have any idea when Force9 email accounts are due to move ?

or other suggestion that might help @Jollyolly ?

Re: Keeping force9 email when ending plusnet subscription

There is no available micro timeline for the different user cohorts.  They are being delivered in phases, by brand and differing usage patterns.  Individual users will get notified at the time that’s their turn.  There’s 100s of thousands to do.

You have already offered the most pragmatic advice - get the new service from the alt net and keep the Plusnet service going until the email has migrated.

That said, this is a Force9 service … I will ask how tightly that is linked to a current broadband account.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Keeping force9 email when ending plusnet subscription

When I first discussed this with plusnet I was told that if it was a Plusnet email I would have to pay £15 per annum. However as it was a Force 9 email it would be free. I was also told that I had given them sufficient time to organise this.

@Jollyolly

If you are a PN customer you get two years free service from migration but after that, or if you leave, it's £15 a year.

I fear that you have read posts out of context. Is it too late to cancel the move? In a.few months the situation will be totally different. Once the migration is completed you can leave and pay £15 per year to keep your email address. If you leave at the end of the month then I’m afraid that the email service will cease and, assuming that you use IMAP, all your past emails stored on Plusnet’s servers will be immediately deleted.

As you are only using email,  that will make it easier if  @dave  is able to help.

Thanks, I'm on holiday for the next couple of weeks but I've put a reminder in to have a look on 27th August if that's OK.

Re: Keeping force9 email when ending plusnet subscription

@dave

Wednesday 27th August is a bit close to @Jollyolly 's Plusnet account closure date of Monday 1st September,

is there anyone else who could help ?, or are you confident something could be achieved those last couple of days ?
