IS this genuine??

I've received an email from [email protected] (which went into the junk folder) saying:

"We’re making important changes to Plusnet email and webspace services that affect this email address. To keep these services secure, reliable and well supported in the future, specialist email provider Greenby will manage all Plusnet email, webspace and domain services.

This change only affects the Plusnet email address linked to your service: <removed>@<removed>.plus.com. If you currently have webspace with Plusnet, this will also be transferred if you choose to migrate your email inbox to Greenby.

If you wish to continue using your Plusnet email service by transferring to Greenby, you must opt in by following the instructions below before the deadline shown in this email.

If you don’t want to keep this email address, or do not opt in by the deadline given, your email service and associated data will not be transferred to Greenby and these services will be ceased by 26112026.

You must Opt In to continue using your current email and webspace services."

Is this genuine? Do I have to do anything?

@SueNapleton

[email protected]  is a domain on an Amazon email server.

It looks to be completely fake.

Re: IS this genuine??

It could be genuine, @PhilipHeyes  - BT Group PLC  appear to be using Amazon AWS as a service - see the topic posted by 'steed' recently - that email came from a @**.plus.net address via AWS.

Re: IS this genuine??

@James_B Another case of BT  using AWS - so the true source is hard to trace?

Re: IS this genuine??

I can not recall any other posts speaking of the need to opt in.

When our Plusnet emails and hosting migrated to Greenby in March of this year there was not a need to opt in.

Re: IS this genuine??

It is genuine. Where accounts with email that hasn't been used are detected, then the process has changed to an 'opt in' rather than an opt out in an attempt to minimise uneccessayb effort involved in migrating unused email accounts

@SueNapleton if you do actually use your plusnet email then you need to use the link to opt in

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: IS this genuine??

I can't either, which is why I have tagged James_B.

Re: IS this genuine??

You need to redact your email address that's in your post ASAP.  Unless you're happy for it to be spammed.

As for whether or not the message is genuine, I don't know BUT it is true that Plusnet are migrating their email service to Greenby.

If you are OK with that, you don't need to do anything.

If you don't like that idea then you can opt-out but you need a plan in place to ensure you don't lose any of your old emails.

Thanks @MisterW  - I was about to tag you and Townman in an attempt to ask the question raised with the business.

And the question is - why are BT using AWS  and not their own mail servers?

That is very much NOT the case for all cohorts.  The strategy is changing as the end of the Plusnet community enters the migration programme.  Mail accounts not accessed regularly will only be migrated on an OPT IN basis.

Folks need to read the emails carefully and act accordingly as fits their needs.  For done they will need to opt one way or the other to avoid the default action (which hitherto has been to migrate).
