Have you set the email address in your account settings? And please re-check my reply - I edited it after realising I had missed 'yourusername' from the string.
Thought it should be plus.net not plus.com as follows
b***********@yourusername.plus.net
@mort7890 No - definately .plus.com for email addresses
Tried that and immediately I get that it is not recognised by the wizard in Outlook 2007.
@Surfer It's taken me a while, but I've just noticed you've been here since 2007. What email client have you been using previously?
I don't know for sure, because I've not used it, but there should be a way to over-ride the wizard.
I was with Plusnet and then move to another provider 2 years ago. I have now come back and I am a new customer however I had to use the same login as my details were not removed when I left. When I set up the email with the previous provider it was straight forward and easy. I am almost certain that the last time I used Plusnet, you were able to set up email address when registering and then this was included in the paperwork as reference. No longer the case!
I use a pobox.com alias for email and my email goes there and should then be redirected to my plusnet mailbox in Outlook 2007 which is not happening because I have been unable to set it up due to poor and confusing instructions on the website.
Why is it when you go to manage your account and click on the relevant page scroll down, click on a click that looks like it may help when all it does is take you back to the top of the page so you go around in circles. Very frustrating!
OK, it is now becoming a little clearer, but because you are posting in two topics, I am having trouble following what is happening.
From the above post, I am wondering why you need to set up a PN email address - surely you can continue using the pobox alias?
It is the plus net smtp that is required. At present I am using the pobox.com smtp which costs me £39 annually although it does come with a lot of extras that I hardly use.
So - you are saying you wish to move from pobox to Plusnet? In which case, once your PN address is verified, the instructions refered to in the other thread should work.
Nope I am keeping the pobox.com just not wanting to use their smtp any more. My email is still ******@pobox.com and email sent to that address gets redirected to the plusnet email. Conversely I use the smtp for sending email and in thise case I need the smtp for sending email to be Plusnet. This should not be a problem normally however the Plusnet webpages are very poor with advice on how to set up the account as the big issue is the Login as it is not recognised as nowhere are you advised about setting up an email account first in the plusnet mailbox or if there is advice it is confusing.
The smtp setting is
relay.plus.net
Thanks for the input. I did input the smtp correctly however the Login is failing. I have now set up an email address on Plusnet but it will take 4 hours for it to become active! Once it is active I see if I cna then Login. Pity this is not mentioned in the Help and Support section or the fact that you need to set up the plus net email first and that it changes from net to com.
I have tried to set up the email using the wizard in Outlook and using **********@********.plus.com and it just bombs it out as it does not recognise the email address and does not want to go any further! I assume that the password is the same as the one that I use to log into my account!
The password is the one you used when setting up the email account in 'manage my mail'. If that is your account log-in password (which, for security, it shouldn't be, really), then yes Outlook should accept it.
