Help! Deleted a folder just moments ago

Can anyone help to restore a folder? I was trying to clean up my folders and selected the wrong one, its got rid of all its very important contents and don't know how to get it back. Can anyone help?

Re: Help! Deleted a folder just moments ago

Hopefully someone will be able to help you. But it will help them to respond quicker if you are able to add some extra details. Did you delete the folder from webmail, or a piece of email software on your phone/computer? If software which one? (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Windows Mail etc),

Also, which method does your email software use to connect... imap or Pop3

You might well find there is a "deleted items" folder or "trash" folder which has your deleted folder in.

But might be wise to report back here with the answers to the above, before proceeding, to get a second opinion.

Good luck.

Thanks for replying, it was a folder under my Inbox via the webclient.

I went to Trash but can't see a folder listed in there.

Re: Help! Deleted a folder just moments ago

Unfortunately the Greenby webmail client empties the trash folder as its default action when exiting webmail.  That is different to the historical behaviour of Plusnet’s webmail service.

If you mail account has been migrated, you’ll have to ask Greenby support if it can be restored from their back ups.  We have no experience / knowledge about what they can / will do in these situations.

If the account has not been migrated, Plusnet has been known to restore accidentally deleted mail content but it’s by special request only if the team have the bandwidth.

I haven't emptied the trash but it didn't move the folder into there. I just clicked delete folder from the list on where you edit folders. Not sure if I've migrated over as the service has been so slow.

Im proper panicking, a relative of mine has died and I've been keeping all the important emails in that folder. Its gone. All to do with the banking, will, probate etc. No idea what to do.

@KeithL45 Just a wild thought. Do you do system backups? It is a long time since I've used Windows, but does it still do its own?

The Greenby site says you will receive an email once you are migrated over, my account details don't work on it and I've def not received any message from them so think I'm still on Plusnet.

No I'm on the web client, don't use an email program.

Re: Help! Deleted a folder just moments ago

I’ve just done playing around with this space to test a theory.  I have seen mailboxes survive being deleted thought the mail administration portal … and then resurrected because the file store is left intact..  Wondered if the same might happen with folders, alas not.

However … I created a test folder, put a mail item into it, deleted the folder, recreated it … and found it empty.  On looking further I found the item which was in it, in the trash folder.

is there any possibility that the items are in the trash folder?

To be sure, did you actually DELETE it or did you unsubscribe from it (remove the tick)?

Do not understand how you can delete a folder accidentally - it is a four step process…

  1. Select the folder
  2. click the cog bottom left
  3. select delete
  4. affirm the delete prompt

@plusnettony is there any possibility of a recovery for this dire / embarrassing situation please?

Re: Help! Deleted a folder just moments ago

I was trying to delete a different folder and selected the other one, clicked the prompt and realised it had gone. I did it in the manage folders section. I tried expanding deleted items thinkingn it might be in there but sadly not.

I don't clear out my deleted items folder on the webclient but I cant find any of these emails. I know where several came from and they just aren't there.

I'll have a look in the morning. Assuming you've not migrated, of course.
