@PhilipHeyes Thanks, that explains what I see. How did you find out about this? Are these changes posted somewhere that users can access?

Thunderbird (and other desktop clients) don't have a spam folder - you need to use the webmail client of your provider to view it.

?

I have been using Thunderbird as an IMAP client for around 20 years, and it has always detected and shown a SPAM folder when a "SPAM" directory already exists on the email provider's server.

As an aside, if you enable adaptive junk filtering within Thunderbird, then that tends to create a new "Junk" folder.

On some of my old legacy accounts where I get a lot of unsolicited messages, I use the email provider's filtering rules to put unwanted messages in to SPAM, and then get the Thunderbird bayesian filtering to move to "Junk" any remaining offenders based on it's pattern recognition of previous messages that I've marked as "Junk".

@Chris_P

We migrated to Greenby in March, I have had time to examine how Greenby aka the mail.enmail.co platform works.

Ah, OK @ExForce9 . Because of the way I have always used TB - as a POP3 client - maybe it works differently. I do not want or need to use IMAP.

POP3 clients only read the server Inbox.

One of the perils of 'Lithium aversion'?

According to Google, when using Lithium you should observe the following -

Safety Precautions
• Lithium is reactive and requires caution.
• The reaction is exothermic and releases heat.
• Always handle lithium with tweezers or gloves, and wear safety goggles

Tried all that. Still doesn't work... 🤕

Interestingly one safe means to store loose Lithium is in a jar of petrol.

it is most reactive with air and water

there are no error messages. In all applications, it looks as if the email has sent - it just never arrives

"I cannot send emails" and "Emails I sent do not arrive" are very different statements / scenerios.

The first comes with an explicit error message - password error is typical for a multitude of sins; currently "Unknown Sender" arises from the recent hardening of the outbound server to counteract the extensive abuse of the service.

The second has a number of possibilities, which might or might not offer a clear signpost of an issue...

  • A very clear Non-delivery Report (NDR) which details the reason for not accepting delivery
  • The recipient has the email delivered to their junk folder
  • It is silently not delivered - this has been seen extensively with bully-boy tactics from Gmail and Microsoft mail services

It is very important to be clear around the difference between "cannot send" and "what I sent did not arrive" - are the not delivered items in your sent items folder?

That is a good question.  This change is clearly signposted in the most recent version of the email migration advisory email...

Was that in the emails covering the early migrations ... I suspect not as the Greenby SMTP service had not been fully commissioned at that time.

@Townman It certainly wasn't in any communications I received - but I've been moved a while.

I have just raised that consideration with the business...

Re: Greenby migration now I can't send emails. Raging.

@PhilipHeyes I don't doubt that for a moment. What I'm trying establish now is whether there is any accredited source for this knowledge, or is it just pieced together by ploughing through all the posts in this part of the forum?

@Townman Your recent reply is helpful.  But as I noted in my first post in this thread, I have no record of Greenby notifying me of any change at all since migration.  Perhaps that is down to issue with the addresses they hold.  Further study needed, I suppose.
