Greenby and email

Curious goings on.

A few weeks ago I received an email from Plusnet re; the Greenby transfer which had an option to NOT transfer but to permanently delete the email address/account and all it’s folders, this was the option I chose.

Yesterday I got a ‘welcome to Greenby’ email to my registered email (not Plusnet group) but the Plusnet address quoted was incorrect!

Close on 10 years ago when I moved house Plusnet said they couldn’t use the same account name so they added a’1’ to the end of the original so ‘Username’  became ‘Username1’.

The welcome email was addressed to ‘username@username.plus.com’ and CC to my registered email address in other words they seemed to have dropped the ‘1’ ?

Out of curiosity I attempted to log in to the old address now at Greenby but I couldn’t remember the password so after going through the ‘Forgotten  password’ hoops Greenby sent a passcode which was CC to my registered address and I can now log into a long forgotten email account.

Rather like ‘The Old Empty House’ in Dad’s Army – there was nothing in it !!! except for the welcome email and passcode. (Other contents archived)

At some point I will have to cancel/delete it as I don’t want it or potentially be charged for it. (after 2 years that is !)

Re: Greenby and email

I too received a 'Welcome to Greenby' email yesterday, but I'm mystified as to why because my broadband contract with Plusnet ended on 27th May 2025 and since that date I've not had access to my Plusnet email account and nor do I want it.

Plusnet should not have passed my account details onto Greenby and I'll ignore any communications from Greenby.

Re: Greenby and email

Update: Seems I also have webspace as well. I don't recall ever having had that. It currently has a Plusnet placeholder showing.

Re: Greenby and email

Ah - that explains everything!

Those accounts with domain names and website hosting are not yet in the migration schedule.  I raised a query as to why one account received the migration notice and the other has not.  Thank you for sharing your own sleuthing.

Re: Greenby and email

@Batfrog @delta777 could you both send me a PM with the username of the account we migrated/sent the comms to please and I'll check it against the list.

@Batfrog if you need the code I can get that generated for you but to note if you don't take any action then at the end of the free period the account is just disabled. We've not passed any payment details on to Greenby so if you don't explicitly log in and add your card there's no way they can charge you and other than sending you reminders all they do is cancel the address.
