In that regard I am thinking of paying for a 10 year registration, which though costly upfront works out at about £14 per year.........not a lot in the scheme of things to arrange something for the longer term requirements.
@Routefinder that sounds expensive!, a .uk domain is only £7.20/yr and £6.12/yr (prices inc vat) if paid 10yrs in advance. See https://www.mythic-beasts.com/domains

@Bobbymax42 I've got this same issue: see this thread
It's being looked into (by Plus not Greenby) but so far I've been told they can't reproduce the problem 😞

Thanks for the reply and yes the .uk is more budget worthy but I was looking at the .com
Perhaps I am in internet terms 'old school' and I surmise it should not matter re: choice of TLD and whether by the domain it matters if the geographic location is so to to speak 'plain & clear'.
FWIW one possible domain I was considering has been taken as .com and .co.uk and though I have not checked it is possible that the likes of .uk is available.
So I suppose if it does not matter I wonder what TLD others are using for their email (only) domain???

.uk domains are much simpler to administer and transfer.
So I suppose if it does not matter I wonder what TLD others are using for their email (only) domain???
I would suggest using .me.uk, .uk or .org.uk domains for personal email. .co.uk domains are meant primarily for business use.

I maybe wouldn't choose something that is "close" to something already in use that you might accidentally get mail for by people making mistakes entering it. A .uk domain will be managed by nominet in the uk, a .com will be managed in the US with different rules.
One thing to be aware of is the exposure of your personal contact details as domain holder, the rules may vary uk/com (well they certainly did a few years ago), and by registrar, as to how much they hide them. I THINK they hide contact details better now as a rule but years ago especially .com, they didn't. I believe GDPR caused that to change. So you're probably OK buy maybe check what the registrar does if it's a .com and you care. It also may vary according to if it thinks you are a company or private individual. I seem to remember they ask different questions depending if they think you're a company etc, but been a while since I filled that out.

A good point that I have had clarified is that Nominet will AFAIK allow Privacy for all individual, non company, registered Domains under GDPR because they are the UK service.
It seems that the likes of .com and the non UK register companies (like Nominet) they are a mixed bag whether the buyer is in the UK or not.
So, it does look like it is best to stick with a Nominet TLD for that layer of privacy as a given in Law.

Hi
The .uk I would have preferred was taken so decided on the .me.uk
Happy with the choice bearing in mind that it will only ever be used for an email address and not appear anywhere else.

Update
Of the choice available for my chosen domain name the one left(?) was the .me.uk
As a UK Domain there is no longer an active choice of 'privacy' as that is automatic due to GDPR Regulations ![]()
The one thing to be aware of that in the case of the 'ownership', as an individual do not fill the Company Field of the application form.

Advise based on experience :
I 'own' a couple of UK domains, 'domain'.co.uk.
I took up the offer of 'domain'.uk but turned down 'domain'.co as I could see an endless amount of variants. One of the 'domain'.co was picked up by another Company operating around the corner from where I worked. What I didn't foresee were some users inadvertently adding '.uk' to the address. I received some very interesting emails........

My only problem with my 'domain'.uk is that sometimes, when giving an email address over the phone, people don't listen carefully and incorrectly assume 'domain'.co.uk ! They usually confirm the address back to you, so its easily corrected.

Yes that's the sort of thing I was talking about earlier. For a while I was getting emails from a company for another business and I kept emailing them saying "wrong domain please update your address book" but it took a while for them to stop. Actually .me.uk is probably better as they'll hear the .me. if you stress it's that down the phone and realise it's not a .co. (and they insert one from habit)? .uk is pretty rare, I know it exists but tbh I never really see it used.

@Kwak In my case I did offer to sell the Domain to the 'domain'.co Company, I also considered forwarding their messages to a non existant address. I could have made up an 'interesting' address which would be seen on a non deliverable message but wondered if It would break a privacy law.
I thought @MisterW 's suggestion of 'domain'.me.uk looked good but see there is also a 'domain'.me option which could cause similar problems..............

It's getting worse and worse.
When I email friends who have gmail addresses, they are rejected and I get the return message: -
This is the mail system at host gateway1.enmail.co.
I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.
For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.
If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.

Google (gmail) are therefore implying that I am sending spam email!
I had been successfully sending emails to this gmail friend for years when at Plusnet, but now at Greenby they do not send. I opened a ticket at Greenby and they said that they are not the problem - keep trying to send the email and it will eventually send ok. NOT SO. I sent the same email three times this evening and each time I got the same rejection message as suspected spam.
Why oh why did Plusnet choose Greenby - who by all the negative comments on here, simply does not work. Plusnet was perfect - Greenby is the pits...

I've had problems with sending to microsoft (outlook) before but I've sent to gmail a couple times this week and just tried to my own gmail and it went through ok, so it's an "intermitten" problem not a total block.
I went via the plusnet mail out relay.plus.net with my domain as the sender, and using the passworded socket. I can't remember if they ever had it that allowed an open socket if you are a plusnet ip or whatever (and if that might've went out a different and less trusted server IP, technically probably possible) but anyway .. socket 587.
(Certainly one ISP I had in the distant past the smtp out never needed a password, it stuck in my memory it checked you were sending from their network)
