@SneakyPete

So getting back to the original question, all those settings should work for you.  There is a possibility that they might not have worked before 9am today when a number of mitigation measures where applied.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

Sadly, still getting..

      This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently:

   * xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com

Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** xxxxxxxx@gmail.com ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

That is an entirely different issue, most probably to do with Gmail.

First things first - can you send and email to yourself and receive it back?  If yes, then both outbound and inbound are configured correctly.

After that instead of sending to fred@gmail.com send to fred@googlemail.com.  They are same with the exception that the latter is not bashed by Gmail's draconian anti-delivery measures directed toward free email users.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

I can send to myself but any other address gets the error message regardless of destination

Are all addressees with Gmail?

Is there any more detailed information in the attachments?

Does this work on a different device?

Is the sending email address the same as that on the FNN account?

I'm not likely to get back to this today...

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

Cannot send to any addresses- regardless of domains. Have also tried on Mac laptop and get port error messages for 25 and 587.
Also cannot send to self with either setting on laptop.

Error message reads:
The server "smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk cannot be contacted on port 587"

...or 25.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

Stick with the specification and what you proved to work in post #15 - user port 587.

Check that the client is not trying to force Encryption (STARTTLS) - it is not supported on FNN

* Host smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk:587 was resolved.
* IPv6: (none)
* IPv4: 212.159.9.233, 212.159.8.233
*   Trying 212.159.9.233:587...
* Connected to smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk (212.159.9.233) port 587
< 220 avasout-ptp-002 smtp smtp-proxy.plus.net
> EHLO Lent
< 250-avasout-ptp-002 hello [84.92.*.*], pleased to meet you
< 250-HELP
< 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
< 250-SIZE 104857600
< 250-PIPELINING
< 250-8BITMIME
< 250 OK
* STARTTLS not supported.
* closing connection #0
curl: (64) STARTTLS not supported.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

So, a weekend of receiving emails on my Samsung mail app but unable to send to any addresses without the following message..
Reason: A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server ?? responded with: ** xxx@xx.uk ??:?? This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server .
