Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

As of this morning I have received the following error messsage:

Unable to send or receive messages for the mail.freenetname.co.uk (1) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed.
Server: 'mail.plus.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

The links (from other posts on the boards) seem to go to Broadband password resets and not webmail - I have

tried them and they don't work, as I do not have BB they say 'cannot find account'.

Hope someone can help, please!

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

I've seen this in MS Outlook a few times in the last 6 months, I do nothing and wait for the email to come back on line.

I do not change my passwords or modify any configuration settings that were working.

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

Unfortunately your not the only one - my freenetname account stopped working just after midday, with webmail just saying 'login failed' after entering the password (it's the same on my desktop, laptop, iPad and my wife's iMac). Now I'm tearing my hair out because I was in the middle of a rather important conversation.

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

I have had a Freenetname email address since 1999 and was a Plusnet customer until a few weeks ago when I was moved to EE (as I wanted to keep my home phone).

Today, I received an email from Greenby saying that I had been moved to them.  Immediately after this, I have been unable to access my email account on my phone or on Outlook on any of my computers (some of these I access via the mail.freenetname.co.uk server, and others via pop3.plus.net - both methods have worked up until now).

So now I can't access any of my emails on Outlook or smartphone.  The old Plusnet Webmail doesn't work for me either - but I can access it via the Greenby webmail website (although it took several minutes to let me in).

Please can you let me know what I have to do to access my email via Outlook and my phone as I have been doing up to now?

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

I have just noticed that my email address, which was <username>@freenetname.co.uk is showing on Greenby as <username>@<username>.freenetname.co.uk

I have tried putting this Greenby version of my email address in Outlook, but it won't accept it.

Could this be the source of the trouble, and how can this be corrected?

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

So - I thought I would look at the Greenby website.... successfully logged in and it tell me that coincidetally my transfer has taken place today (21st), so I have completed the additional details they ask for, click on continue to my emails and get a blank, white screen.

I know there is at least one email which I have not been able to download yet.

I logged off Greenby and decided to go back and log on again for a look-round - and AMAZING I have now got access to my emails!!

Next step is to get them down to WLM....

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

I have just tried to send 3 separate emails from my separate Gmail account to:

<username>@freenetname.co.uk

<username>@<username>.freenetname.co.uk

<anything>@<mydomain>.org.uk (which is my domain-based email address which my freenetname.co.uk address has previously directed to.

None of these emails has been received when I look at my Greenby email.  And I haven't received any other emails there since the Greenby email telling me that I had been migrated.

Clearly, something isn't working properly.  Please can someone let me know how this can be resolved?  I'm thinking it's because the Plusnet migration to Greenby has been done wrong.

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

@mjh1986

I have just noticed that my email address, which was <username>@freenetname.co.uk is showing on Greenby as <username>@<username>.freenetname.co.uk

An issue was discovered with the migration of one of the MAAF vISP (virtual ISP e.g freenetname ) emails ( globalnet ) earlier this week and has been fixed.

The MAAF vISP email accounts had two formats for the email address <accountname>@<vISP>.co.uk and <anything>@<accountname>.<vISP>.co.uk.

Starting with migrations as of today , the corresponding Greenby accounts will show as having a domain <accountname>.<vISP>.co.uk and a default mailbox <acountname>@<accountname>.<vISP>.co.uk. That mailbox acts as the 'catch-all' and will also have an alias of <accountname>@<vISP>.co.uk so mail addressed to either of those addresses will be accepted.

In addition , you can now create additional mailboxes of the form <mailbox>@<accountname>.<vISP>.co.uk and add aliases to those mailboxes which will allow sending & receiving to those addresses.

ICBW but I'm not aware that this affects the login credentials.

@mjh1986

<anything>@<mydomain>.org.uk (which is my domain-based email address which my freenetname.co.uk address has previously directed to.

If you had an additional hosted domain, then that should show on the Greenby portal. Probably as an alias of the <accountname>.freenetname.co.uk domain . Does it ?

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

So how do I get rid of the <myname>@<myname>.freenetname.co.uk  (which is an Alias and which contains all my emails)

My original email address is listing as a Mailbox but is empty of the emails.

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

I can send from Greenby email and it is received at my Gmail account but the email heading says it comes from <username>@<username>.freenetname.co.uk - which has never been my email address.

For my Plusnet email address, which migrated several months ago (but I rarely use) I was able to add alias email addresses by clicking on the 3 vertical dots to the right of the "View Webmail" button.  But that option is not available to me on the Freenetname account.

Thank you @MisterW - I did have a hosted domain and that is showing on the Greenby portal.  Do I need to make any changes with that?

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

So... after all this I can see my emails at Greenby BUT I still cannot download them to WLM - still getting the same message despite the passwords being the same.

I have tried changing my WLM address to <myname>@<myname>.freenetname.co.uk but this does not work either!!

Can someone help with this?

Re: Freenetname email - Incorrect password entered

Yes, I think I am now in the same position as @fairmaiden - I can see my emails that have been received if I go direct to webmail.greenby.com - but only those to

<username>@<username>.freenetname.co.uk

or  <anything>@<mydomain>.org.uk

but not to <username>@freenetname.co.uk

But I can't receive anything at my Outlook client.

Would really appreciate knowing how this can be sorted out - thank you.
