Free-Online Email Setting

Hello,

Please could someone give me the correct email server settings for Free-Online.

My 88yo Mum's email stopped working quite a while ago for no apparent reason. It was working fine previously!
Her computer has Windows 11 and Office365 installed and she uses Outlook for her email.

Neither of us are particularly technical and I've tried playing around with the settings shown on the PlusNet website, but can't get it to work.

Thanks very much in advance for your help with this problem.

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

There is a list at : https://greenby.com/support/knowledgebase/article/29

Make sure the server settings you are applying are being retained.

For Windows 11 & Office 365 we had to correct our email server settings via the Windows Control Panel (not via MS Outlook).

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

Thanks PhilipHeyes,

I'll give these settings a go when I'm at my Mum's this evening.

One question (sorry I'm not very techy)...

If you're setting the email server settings via the Windows Control Panel, what do you put for the Server Settings in Outlook? Do you leave them blank (I'm not sure it'll let you do that) or do you set them up in both Outlook and Windows Control Panel?

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

Hello again PhilipHeyes,

The Greenby website link you've kindly sent me only gives one port number. Is the port number the same for both incoming and outcoming emails?

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

From memory I first created a new a/c in Outlook and then when it did not work as expected because the wizard had picked the wrong email servers I had to then use the Windows Control Panel to set the correct email servers.

Note the list I mentioned talks about the old port numbers that do not use encryption.

It is best practice to use encryption on in bound and out bound emails.

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

These are the email port numbers we use for our Plusnet Connection.

You will be using the same ports and encryption methods
but with the correct servers for your brand of email accounts

Server              Port   Encryption

mail.plus.net     995    SSL/TLS       ( POP3 )
imap.plus.net    993    SSL/TLS       ( IMAP )

relay.plus.net    587    STARTTLS   ( SMTP )
OR
relay.plus.net    465    SSL/TLS       ( SMTP )

Re: Free-Online Email Setting

@MWildig

For Free-Online email I use these settings

IMAP: imap.free-online.net port: 993 TLS/SSL
POP3: mail.free-online.net port: 995 TLS/SSL
SMTP: relay.free-online.net port: 587 STARTTLS

EDIT:

I use the full email address for the user name
