Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

I'm initiating the transfer from PN by calling them.

You need to setup the MB account first and add the domain as a third party domain. That will then enable you to setup all the mailboxes and transfer any existing emails. Once that's ready, you can then start the domain transfer in from the MB control panel and then request Plusnet to initiate the transfer. You will then be notified by MB when the transfer is complete and can change the nameservers.

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

"You need to setup the MB account first and add the domain as a third party domain. "

This is all rather confusing, because the MB third party domain page seems to imply it's an either/or, ie either

"Use this form to add a domain that is registered with another domain registrar to your Mythic Beasts account without transferring the registration to us. "

or

"If you want to transfer a domain registration to Mythic Beasts, please use the domain transfer process. "

I have chosen the latter, because that's what I want to do.

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

What you have done will work but I cant recall whether the domain will be available in your MB account until the transfer is complete. If it is , then fine, you can configure mailboxes etc in advance of the transfer completing. If not, then you will have to wait for the transfer to complete, which can be a few days, before you can start configuring mailboxes and copying any existing emails!.

That's fine, as long as it works.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

Does the domain already show in your MB account ? and will it allow you to configure mailboxes ?

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

"Does the domain already show in your MB account ?"

It shows as "awaiting transfer"

"will it allow you to configure mailboxes ?"

I tried to set up email addresses, but the page had the following warning:-

"Mail for this domain does not appear to be handled by our mail servers: the MX records do not point to our mailhubs. The settings on this page will therefore have no effect."

I guess the settings will have an effect once mail IS handled by the MB servers which I also presume will happen once PN move the IPS tag.

Is that more or less correct?

It is😀

Apart from you will need to set the domain to use the MB nameservers once the transfer completes. Only then will the waring go away and mail be received by MB

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

I sent an email to MB letting them know what I was trying to do. They replied within a couple of hours with more-or-less perfect instructions what I should do in the circumstances of PN not permitting the "normal" way host migration should take place.

Now all I need to do is wait for the guy in PN support to let me know that something has happened.

He told me this would take a "few" days, but when pressed had no idea how many were in a "few". Furthermore if he decides in the meantime to go on vacation for a couple of weeks, I would have have to wait for his return, because nobody but that agent can do anything relating to my ticket.

If he's done it correctly, then he willl have raised a request to NetOPS (an internal PN dept) who will process the request . That's what takes the 'few' days. Once they've completed the request then NetOPS will reply to the agent, who'll reply to your ticket. Meanwhile , you can check yourself by logging in to the MB account and check the domain status, once the transfer is complete it should show 'registered and hosted'

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

Regarding the domain transfer, I used:-

https://nominet.uk/lookup/?domain=<my domain>

and found that the current Registrar Name is:-

Easyspace Ltd (ID: EASYSPACE)

Does that make sense to you, I've no idea who Easyspace are?

Neither have I ?

I know that PN use a third party to register non uk domains but I thought they handled uk ones in-house?

Re: Emails to one recipient no longer working

@breslaw I can see two possible scenarios here :-

1) The domain transfer you requested has been actioned but the IPSTAG has been changed incorrectly to EASYSPACE. I dont think this is the case because the last update to the domain is showing as March 2024.

As a double check, can you login to your Plusnet account and check any tickets on your account. There ought to be one for the domain transfer showing what IPSTAG change has been requested ?

2) The domain is configured at Plusnet for 'hosting only' rather than 'registered and hosted'. This was possible many moons ago on some accounts. Looking at whois, this domain was registered a long time ago , March 2000! Is it possible you registered the domain with Easyspace yourself and then asked for it to be hosted with Plusnet ?

It's a variant of this. I remember now - back in 2000 I was working on a software project with a friend, and he bought me my domain from Easyspace. I've called them and actually he is reseller of Easyspace domains, and my domain is one of a block that he still owns.

So should I leave the registrar as-is (at least for the moment), and ask PN merely to transfer hosting to MB?

Plusnet don't transfer the hosting, you transfer that by making DNS changes!.

Who actually owns the domain , you or your friend ?

So , do you have access to the Easyspace control panel for the domain ?
