@Gandalf - thanks for that. How can I see the SPF record? In my domain admin screen, it just shows the "please-add..." MX record and my 2 "A" records.
I'll send an email to someone an address that always fails, as a test.

Does this comment infer an expectation that the result of doing this will be seen in the user portal?

... if yes, then I guess that I need to update the standard guidance ... 🤔

As advised by @Gandalf the result can be observed using MXTools (or nslookup) ... but the successful submission of an email to Gmail is a good acid test too!

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Emails rejected by gmail.com ...

Thankyou @Townman  and @Gandalf .

I do indeed now have SPF records sorted, and the friend with the gmail account who never got my emails, and for who I always got a bounce message just confirmed he received one with no warnings.

Thanks ever so much.

Yes, but that's not to say your guidance is flawed - far more likely I just didn't read enough of it.

That tool will come in very useful. Thanks again.
