Email server connectivity

I have been a Plusnet customer for many years, now in my late 80's and disabled.
Recently, owing to a careless Plusnet advisor, my account was cancelled and I was obliged by Plusnet to start again with a HUB2 and without a landline telephone.

Email from sources other than from Plusnet are received normally, however attempts to get emails from Plusnet result in :-

login to server mail.plus.net with username xxxxxxx failed
Enter new password       Cancel Retry
I do enter the correct password but this message repeats.

I have read, but do not understand, the post
Diagnosing email server connectivity issues - the guide
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Re: Email server connectivity

I suspect your old account wasn't re-activated (it's not usually possible).

Can you please PM me your full email address so I can take a look? Thanks.

Re: Email server connectivity

Scratch that @Windings has provided me with your details.

It's not always possible, but I've managed to get the old account back. IF you had a mailbox, you'll need to re-create this on the portal (portal.plus.net). Let us know if you have any issues.

Re: Email server connectivity

My difficulty is with the current emails to and from Plusnet
I sent a test message from Gmail to Plusnet.
This is what happened:-

Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

Your message wasn't delivered to xxxx@xxxxx.plus.com because the domain xxxxxx.plus.com couldn't be found.
The notification was:

DNS Error: DNS type 'mx' lookup of xxxxxxx.plus.com responded with code NXDOMAIN Domain name not found: xxxxxx.plus.com

The addressing was correct, any advice please?

Re: Email server connectivity

That suggests a typo in the addressee or that the addressee account has been closed.

Is the addressee your account?

This is what’s seen on an iPhone in such circumstances…

Re: Email server connectivity

The addressee is my account with Plusnet.
The sender is my account with Gmail.
The addressing is correct.

Re: Email server connectivity

Reporting my error....

In examining my account details I find that my contact email address has been changed from Plusnet to my Gmail account.

It seems that I no longer have an email address using a Plusnet source (as I have always had in the past to receive bills and notifications)

The email difficulty that I have been reporting during this post must be owing to this unexpected (and unobserved) change.

I await the first bill notification for my new account to see whether this supposition proves true.
I can only apologize for failing to notice this change earlier.
