Just as an aside, I am having no issues sending e-mails using my Windows 7 PC running Outlook 2003! 😂

Isn't it weird how different people using, seemingly, the same methods have such apparently different outcomes with email?

I do wonder what is really going on.

@Digsy  Snap! Also no problems here with Outlook 2003, running on Windows 10. I think the problems are with phones, Android at least, and probably ones that no longer get manufacturer's updates.

Recently when 123reg hardened the encryption expectations, that totally shut out MS Outlook 2010,
but Thunderbird is fine.

The G5 Certificates appear to be an issue on Android 13 & earlier iPads.

With 24/7 support on this, why is it taking so long to review and resolve given the key evidence which has been supplied here?

• IMAP & POP3 servers are using a G2 root certificate, thus legacy platforms do not encounter issues
• SMTP servers are using a G5 root certificate which some legacy devices might not support
• This is identical to the issue encountered and resolved around 15th August 2025 - has anyone inspected the systems change history for that issue and considered if it is relevant today?

If this is a strategic direction to adopt only the current G5 root certificate standards (it would be an understandable move) then why were the recent issues of IMAP & POP3 server certificates G2 signed, not G5?

Why has there been no move to cross sign the certificates G2 & G5?

Who is in charge of decision making here?  Does the decision maker understand the issue?

It is not a difficult decision - either fix the certificate (reissue with G2 as per 2025) or declare that security is being hardened ... and reissue the IMAP & POP3 certificates with G5 root certificates ... and lock out legacy devices entirely.  A foot in each camp (G2 or G5) whilst siting on the fence is neither a tenurable nor defensible position.  We are approaching the BH weekend when folks will be using the email service more and there will be fewer people around to do anything ... happy to escalate to Consumer Division if it helps focus on addressing the user experience.

@dave / @plusnettony - is this under your oversight please?

@JamesB As things are, Gmail will work on my phone (generic Android) by setting SMTP security to SSL/TLS (accept any certificate). I can't say I'm keen on having it locked out entirely! Unless this is compromising server security, then I guess I'd be looking at a new phone.
