so my PN account will have to be used .
but looking the only option u get for a name is @rongtw.plus.com or @yourdomain.co.uk
why cant i use the " @plus.com " and do away the rongtw ?

That's not the way the Plusnet mail system is configured but you can of course have anything before the '@' giving unlimited email addresses.
I use my own domain which makes my email address totally portable.

It's only £1.60 a month to keep 11 email addresses @btinternet.com or @btopenworld.com or @talk21.com, so hardly going to break the bank.
Plusnet charge £20 a year for a similar service if you leave them and want to keep your Plusnet email active - just 80p different
The Premium Mail service has been on the go for at least a couple of years now. I suspect that the change-over from Yahoo to Critical Path is behind the enforced change.

I dont know if it still possible but when I first got broadband I also did not realise my user name was part of the email address, when I asked if it could be changed a Plusnet rep said no, but I could take out a free dial up account with the name of my choice and simply use that email instead.

It's because every aspect of your account is tied into the username that you have chosen.

so if i request a free dial up account , i can then use" my name@plus.net " as my email rather than pay BT

No, if a dial up account is provided with account name 'mydialupaccountname' then the available email addresses will follow the pattern anythingyoulike@mydialupaccountname.plus.com .
So you need to choose a 'mydialupaccountname' that you are happy to see in the email address (and that no one else has already taken).
You would set up and manage the mailbox names by logging into account 'mydialupaccountname' and using Manage My Mail there.
