Email Using Thunderbird

Emails can't be sent (error message received), but can be received. Have contacted Plusnet who referred me to forum. Have not yet received email from Greenby regarding migration of my details, so don't know whether or not the problem will be resolved after migration from Plusnet to Greenby. Plusnet tech. dept say problem is likely due to me using Thunderbird. Don't understand whats happening, everything was working fine until 2 days ago.

Please can anyone help an old guy who is absolutely not IT literate.

Thank you in anticipation of someone being able to help.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

No, I mean Plusnet/Metronet/Freenetname, or one of the other legacy ISPs now under the PN brand.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

Are you attempting to send to Microsoft email addresses?

If yes, then be aware that Microsoft has totally fouled up sending emails to their users by considering all Plusnet users to be a single bulk email sender.

If this involves Microsoft's problem, changing settings or email clients will not help.  See the relevant topic.

If this does not involve Microsoft email recipients, then follow the guidance above.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

Some of the emails were to 'Outlook' addresses, when I sent 'test' messages to myself they were received ok.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

As stated by @Townman , above, are you sending to a recipient on a Microsoft email address, or does this apply to all sending?

Ah, the dreaded Microsoft heavy hand.

That is what I suspected - there’s nothing wrong with your set up, but you are being blighted by the draconian rules change on sending emails imposed by Microsoft.

Plusnet are investigating mitigation measures.  The solution is not within your control.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

Hi, is this why I can no longer send an email to any hotmail email accounts now?

I've been trying to find out what's going on this last week or so without any success.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

@fawkner In a word  - yes. It affects any MS  email 'brand' - Outlook/Hotmail...

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

Many thanks for letting me know. I'm assuming we have to sit tight and see if they can resolve it. For now I have set up another account elsewhere to try and work around the issue.

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

Thank you for the information re Microsoft. If I understand correctly does this mean that any emails I send via Thunderbird to a Microsoft Outlook address will not be delivered? This problem only presented in the past 3 days.......my provider Plusnet have as you know outsourced their email facility to 'Greenby' starting on the 22nd June......I assumed that the problem of sending emails after that date was due to snags in the migration process to Greenby. I was not aware the Microsoft had imposed restrictions on non Microsoft Outlook incoming emails. Prior to the 22nd June switchover Plusnet/Greeby I never experienced any difficulties in sending emails to Outlook email addresses. Also, as of today I am still receiving emails from Outlook addresses. As someone who is very definiitely not IT literate and of an age I don't understand how I can receive email from Outlook sources but not be able to send to those sources.

I'd like to thank you for your help thus far, I just don't know what I can do to resolve this problem,

Re: Email Using Thunderbird

I can still recieve emails from hotmail addresses, but cannot send to them. I have tried using Outlook Express on the PC and other software on my phones without success. The only thing I have done as a temporary fix, is the creation of an outlook email account, although this means managing 2 accounts. To help with this, I have set up a rule to forward any received emails to my plusnet account, so I still get all emails in the one place. I use plusnet for business, so it's not the best situation.
