Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Hello,

I need to get access to a very old domain name that has followed the Freenetname / Madasafish / Plusnet route of migrations.

My mother runs her email through it which is rife with problems and i'd like be able to change the MXRecords and point them too her shiny new gMail account.

Or i'd like to transfer the domain away but of Plusnet of course don't support it and can't offer me any information or help. They have however helpfully directed me here.

Is anyone able to offer any advice and best next steps?

Thanks, Sam

(on behalf of mother, Pat)

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Do you know on which account the domain is hosted? i.e. Plusnet/MAAF? If so, you should be able to manage the domains the the domain control system on the relevant portal. This maybe a little trickier if still on MAAF but we can take a look for you.

If you wish to transfer, assuming it's a .uk, we just need the new IPS Tag and we can arrange that for you. Anyone you speak to should be able to sort this for you, or we can help on the forums.

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

This is sounding very positive! Thanks for replying so quickly.

I think it's with MAAF? I'm honestly unsure though. Plusnet wouldn't give us any details to access a control panel. Just kept saying the domain is unsupported.

I've requested a transfer of the domain via 123 Reg so the new IPS tag would be 123-REG. The domain is www.no66.co.uk.

What other information do you need?

Thanks again, we've been going round in circles on this for years.

Cheers, Sam

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

I'm sorry people have said this - we do offer support or you'd not be able to transfer it.

It looks to be on MAAF tag but we can work with that. Can you drop me a note with any account username you might have handy, I can then create a 'ticket' on the portal so I can get your authority to make the change. I'll then action it for you. Thanks.

EDIT : I've found your account - if you log in to the portal, you'll find ticket 249551255. Reply to that confirming the domain and IPS tag, and I'll sort it for you.

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Brilliant, thanks. I did think that was a bit of an odd dead end.

Can you post a link to the correct portal to log in to?

I'm trying at this link but the details won't work.

The main login page should be at https://www.plus.net/member-centre/login .

The drop-down on 'provider' just offers Plusnet - Force9 - Free-Online (not sure which of those relates to Freenetname (?)) but hopefully Plusnet or Free-Online would work for inputting your username/password.

Worth a try, anyway.

Yeah none of those work. I'll call them in the morning and see if they can add the information to the ticket over the phone.

Thanks, Sam

This link should hopefully work: https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=search

Oh wait if you have a Freenetname domain, it’d be hosted on a Madasafish account, and you can access the tickets by logging in here https://secure.madasafish.com/contact/tickets.shtml

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Thanks both,  sadly even her email address isn't recognised as a username for a password reset (stated invalid). And the log in isn't working. I'll try the phone route, bypass security and try and have the info appended to the ticket that way.

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Reset email password

If you are not able to login to the email address using webmail, then it is likely that your email address has been identified as being compromised and has had its password changed. Where email address passwords have been changed to protect the integrity of the service, the Plusnet account password is left unchanged.

Which ISP are you with, Plusnet or one of the other / legacy vISPs?

Plusnet / Force9 / FreeOnline users can only change the password on the DEFAULT email address by changing the password on the user ACCOUNT through the user portal. You can change the password on a secondary mailbox using the Manage My Mail options in the user portal.

Brightview users (Madasafish / FreeNetName / GlobalNet / IC24 / ICScotland / Dialstart / Totalise) logging into webmail should use their full email address. Use the MAAF user portal to update the password on the default email address (change the account password) and use this MAAF guide to change the password on a secondary mailbox address. If you cannot recall the account password, you will need to contact support ... because the account password change process sends an email to the mailbox you cannot now access.

DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD AGAIN for that would allow the continued exploitation of the account. The new password should be cryptic and not one used before.

Note that changing the account password will change the password used for logging on to the relevant user portal. If your email service is NOT a retained legacy service (one associated with a retired internet service account), then the password required by the router to connect to the internet will be changed too. If the router is a Hub Zero or a Hub One supplied by Plusnet it should update automatically. If not, you will need to log into the router, drop the connection, change the password yourself and reconnect.

On the assumption that the email address password has been compromised, I strongly recommend that wherever you have used that email address / password combination as access credentials to services such as Amazon, Netflix, eBay etc., that you also change the passwords on those service as well.

Sorry that I did not think to post the above generic soup to nuts changing email passwords guide earlier - for the Brightview group, the reset account password process sends an email to the mailbox ... which you cannot access.  The only route to change the password is via support.

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

If you do try via the portal, try just the username rather than the email address or domain. You'll then see my ticket.

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

Hello again,

I've spoken to support this morning and they have confirmed they have added domain no66.co.uk to the ticket alongside the IPS tag of 123-Reg.

Can you confirm that's all you need?

Thanks again for the support.

Sam

Re: Domain from Freenetname to Greenby

It's on there now - literally added just after I loaded the account. I'll make the change now.

Apologies this took you more than one call.
