Charge for Email now?

Hello,

Just received a notice that my email is to be migrated to Greenby and that I will now be charged £15.00 a year!
I did a quick search but got even more confused. Some say it's two years, others 30 days and some say no charge! Screenshot 2026-08-26 141544.png

This is for a Totalise email address..

Simon...

@Scotty12

Some say it's two years, others 30 days and some say no charge!

If the email (and webspace) is associated with an active Plusnet broadband account then it is free for two years. If there's no active Plusnet account then its chargeable after the 30 days.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Charge for Email now?

Thanks MisterW,

That was a bit of a surprise then. Had that email address as Madasafish and then Totalise.
So I guess, it's now chargeable as it is just the email address and nothing to do with Plusnet!😡

It won't be chargeable if you have a Plusnet broadband account.

@stuck

Like I say. It's just an email address I have. Nothing with Plusnet.

is that correct for ex-Plusnet customers who don't have a webspace?

I have been migrated to Greenby and I am in the process of closing my Plusnet account but I have not had any communication to say I will be charged before the two year free period has ended. It also states on the Greenby portal that the charge will be £12.50 per year when it is applied.

Uh oh...I just tried logging in the Greenby webmail to check that and now I am getting this when attempting to log-in:

Account details not recognised, please try again.

I have tried my username and different plusnet email addresses but none are being accepted. As usual with Greenby I don't know if I have done something wrong or their system is having one its many outages,

Even though I was fully migrated months ago, the 'my greenby' log-in page still states:

Your Greenby login will only be activated after your migration is complete. We'll notify you by email as soon as it's ready.

Yet mail is still working via Thunderbird.

On the log-in page on the Greenby portal under 'Username or Email Address' and 'password' it asks you to enter your provider and plusnet is the only relevant option.

Shouldn’t the provider now be Greenby.? 😕

I still think the transfer to Greenby has been a shambles, especially for ex-plusnet users like myself who have effectively been forced to change ISP.

Incidentally, I don't mind paying for an email service that works but Greenby's service has been a little, um, inconsistent to say the least...  🙄

@Bookworms To log into Greenby, use your PN account name - only, and the account password

I managed to log-in after a password reset.

£12.50 + VAT @ 20% = £15

Re: Charge for Email now?

Ah, I thought it was VAT inclusive. My renewal date is early 2028.  I'm assuming that I won't need to pay until then even, though I am no longer with Plusnet.

[I think my webmail log-in problem was probably due to my browser storing my old credentials.]

Re: Charge for Email now?

I was told by Plusnet support (by phone) that I would have to pay the fee for my Globalnet email address even though I have an active fibre broadband account with Plusnet. But I keep seeing on the forum that we wouldn't have to pay. So which is it?

Re: Charge for Email now?

@RL0012 does your broadband account also have an email facility ? Only one email account gets the two years free

The system tries to match mail-only accounts with active broaband account and if so will give two years free on the mail-only account. Sometimes the automated matching doesn't work and it has to be done manually

Re: Charge for Email now?

I did have a Plusnet email that I haven't used for years (free with the broadband I think). I'm not sure what happened to that one. I guess it may have been transferred at some point? I don't remember seeing anything about it, but I was losing a lot of email at one point around when other people were getting transfer notifications - seemed to be some kind of server side filtering going on for a while on my Globalnet email.

It's only the Globalnet email that I actually use and when I spoke to Plusnet customer support about it they said it wasn't eligible for the free account as it was Globalnet and not Plusnet. If they just transfer one account for free then I suppose I may have an unwanted free Plusnet email instead.

@RL0012 that probably explains it. The email on that account would be eligible for the free 2 years.

To check if its been transferred to Greenby, try logging in to the Greenby portal with the accountname & password for the broadband account.
