Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

Hi Tony, @plusnettony

Can you please see if you can work your magic fingers again.

I spoke too soon yesterday. I can use my mydomain email addresses to send now using outlook365/Windows11, for which really many thanks and is a real improvment, but the situation with my apple devices and applemail is still deficient.

We have two ipads and an iphone used for emails. All 3 devices can receive mydomain addressed emails, but only one of the three devices is able to send emails from those addresses - an improvement but puzzling!

Its puzzling because as far as i can tell the mail app on all three devices is configured identically:-

incoming mail server: mail.force9.net

No SSL, server port 110

outgoing mail server: SMTP: relay.force9.net

When I try to send there is a message send failure, "send and receive email address are not valid email addresses and have been rejected by the server. The message has been placed in your outbox."

Can you please suggest a way forward. Many thanks

John

@Pancho4

Is this the default or a secondary email address you have issues with?

You might try account or account+mailbox in place of the Force9 / f9 email address as the user credentials.

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

Having sent a few emails earlier today to large-ish groups of friends, an attempt to send another one resulted in:

Task ‘xxx@xxxx.plus.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Cannot send the message. Verify the email address in your account properties.  The server responded: 550 <xxx@xxxx.plus.com> sender rejected (blacklisted by local policy)'

Is it likely that some limit on number of addressees been exceeded and it will ‘wear off’ in a few hours (if so how many?) or is it more likely that something else has gone wrong?

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

The user credentials are already account+mailbox - for all 3 devices!

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

@abitpedantic

I am sure you have seen this already - sounds as though you might have been black listed...

Sender Domain Rejected (black listed by local policy)

This issue can report as server error 550. It typically arises where a user's email address has been abused for the purposes of sending spam emails. It has nothing to do with server settings etc.

This requires intervention by staff to determine the cause of the problem and to issue advice to check your system for viruses and malware. Only after your system(s) have been affirmed to be clean can the black listing be lifted. As a precaution, you should change the password on the affected email address.

Add your details to this thread - Cannot Send Emails and send a PM to @Leanne_T

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

@Townman

Thank you for responding but surely it's not a coincidence that it happened after I sent some emails to a large number of addressees? Is it not more likely that there is some over-zealous algorithm somewhere in the system? I don't suppose there is any mechanism for warning 'the system' of an imminent intentional activity spike.

Anyway I will send a PM as suggested.

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

By the way, I did try to speak to Plusnet Support but I couldn't get through to anyone and sending an ADVISOR text message repeatedly gave "something has gone wrong logging your callback". The system seems to be in a complete mess.

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

@Pancho4 you have confirmed that the server configuration is the same on all devices BUT is the email address different on the accounts for those devices that cant send ?

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

No - I have been trying to send a standard email on each device - from my force9_domain address to a gmail address of mine - the same each time. so the same pair of email address each time.

cheers

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

@plusnettony   @Leanne_T

Yes, outgoing email is no longer blocked.

Thank you both very much.

I have also PM'd Leanne (in response to her PM but unfortunately before I read here (#53) that my problem had been sorted!).

Re: Cannot send any Plusnet emails

This is my first ever post in the community after being with Plusnet for many years.

On Wednesday I discovered that I could receive but not send any emails in both my email client (Outlook Classic) and in Plusnet webmail.

The error (below) is the same as has been posted in this thread and has been reported and escalated by me yesterday on support ticket Question #251675420

I, as another user in this thread, send out a weekly bulk email to 60+ people as I’m secretary of a community. I’m wondering whether this, which I last did on Tuesday,  has triggered the blacklisting as I’ve also had various non deliverables at times when sending an email to a bulk address list during recent months owing to Microsoft changing their policies in Hotmail, Live etc

Error Message in Outlook Classic

Task User1@Username.plus.com sending reported error (0x800CCC78) cannot send the message verify the email address in your account properties the server responded 550 User1@Username.plus.com sender rejected (blacklisted by local policy)

Error message in Plusnet webmail

SMTP ERROR (550) failed to set sender

User1@Username.plus.com

(<User1@Username.plus.com> sender rejected (blacklisted by local policy)).

I don’t think it’s to do with the greenby transfer as my wife on User2@sameusername.plus.com,  a different mailbox in the same account, has no problems at the moment sending emails.

It seems that 2 users in this thread have had the problem resolved and it may involve multiple servers according to plusnettony.  Can I be contacted by either @Leanne_T or  @plusnettony to resolve this please

I have done a deep scan with AVG anti-virus free and no malware was found

I don’t want to wait 6+ weeks as Darren did for this to be resolved as you now seem to know the fix. Help please.
