Can I keep my Globalnet email address ?

Dear experts.

Plusnet provide my broadband and BT my land line (we’re old and want to keep our landline!)  BT say I can’t  have both and have 30 days to go entirely to them.  If I do that can I keep my email address of 25 years?

Or would Plusnet provide both broadband and landline keeping my old 60+ year old landline number?

please help as I’ve not much time to decide.  Thanks.

@leopard99

Couple of thing here.

In the old days if you left PN you lost any email address you had. However, PN are in the process of moving their email system to a new supplier. If yours has been migrated then you don't lose it. It will cost £15 a year but, to me, that's better than losing the address completely.

PN do not off a VOIP phone service so you have two basic choices. There is a third depending on how long you have left on your contracts and / or you're willing to accept Early Termination charges (ETC's).

The first is to stay with PN and arrange for a VOIP supplier to take over (port) your number. This is a bit more work and would result in a few days downtime on the phone.

The second option is for PN to transfer you free of charge to EE, who offer both internet and phone services. Easiest option but PN email would go if not migrated.

The third option is a variation of the second. Move to a new ISP other than EE. For example, Zen Internet have a good reputation.

Re: Can I keep my Globalnet email address ?

I ask a similar question when I was informed that my Plusnet broadband account will be transferred to EE on the 2nd June 2026. This suited me as I need to keep my landline number but I was worried that I would loose my globalnet email as it has not been migrated yet.

Here is the reply I received from Plusnet Help assistant:

Dear Mr Skinner,

Thank you for your time today

With regards to the migration for digital voice landline this will be migrated over to ee at some point in the next few months, With regards to the email address ******@globalnet.co.uk, this will not be effected during this transition, this is a separate email account which will be migrated over to greenby at some point in the next few months. This is an email only account and will still be accessed through Plusnet until migrated.

Hope this helps

@leopard99

I should have added that you could phone the PlusNet Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632 to discuss things.

Make sure they understand you are just looking at your options prior to making a decision.

Re: Can I keep my Globalnet email address ?

Thanks everyone.  I really don’t want to leave Plusnet as I’ve been with them for probably 25+ years, back in the globalnet time.  But as they don’t offer landlines, I’m being pressured to go to BT for my landline and broadband.  I find this offensive but have no choice.

So, I hope and pray by going to BT to keep my landline that my Globalnet email continues.  It would be an impossible task to let everyone know a change after all that time.  Shame it’s not like mobile numbers where you can toe them with you.
