Re: Blocking Spam

@slowtime Thanks for confirming my logic, @jab1  must still be in bed. You could use POP3 on Mailwasher and IMAP on your PC but wait till the more knowledgeable argue against this...........

Re: Blocking Spam

Sorry, @Champnet , I'm not still in bed - been up for a couple of hours, but saw your post too late to answer it last night and forgot it this morning. I am not 100% certain how MW  works, been a long, long time since I  installed it (XP days, IIRC), but basically, it downloads the headers and a user defined proportion of the message, examines the data (don't ask me how), compares it against known spam data it holds, whether the sender is on the 'friends' list, and presents a graphical list - on my system, green is good, brown is 'known' spam and couple of other colours are used for 'undetermined' messages.

You then examine the list, check it has identified everything correctly and amend as required. Once you are satisfied everything is correct, you hit the 'process' button and your mail program opens and downloads the good stuff whilst MW silently deletes the carp from the server - the way I have it set up, anyway - there are other options.
