Posting with an image - very slow

When I post with an image using Additional Options it is appallingly slow even though the image is small (about 70kB)
It  sits waiting for the site for  about 15 to 20 secs

Yep, it's slow!
I'm not surely if that's normal or not though.

No, it isn't normal. It's become very very laggy in recent times on occasions and worse when images are attached.
