Forum and Edge issues

...now if only this forum had been integrated with PlusNet's CRM as was SMF ... and as we recommended in the trials of Lithium a year ago! Such spamming might never have been the problem it became. PS - off topic - whilst passing I see that this RT edit box now has a purple border ... more skin graft magic from @jaread83? Though @usrrname hinting does not seem to work here... better go look for relevant threads!

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Hi @Townman, I haven't done any work on the RT box, what is it that you're seeing? Is this on an iPad or similar?

Re: Forum and Edge issues

@jaread83, Hi Jack, As per screen grab purple boarder on RT box - NICE! However no name hint when typing @User ... may be Lithium broke something? ...hang on a minute - there's no RT controls here - cannot attach the image!!! Browser is Edge...!

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Capture RT purple.JPG@jaread83,

OK am now in IE on Win10 - looks like Lithium have broken Edge support!

No purple boarder here, @user_name works here and RT controls are present - see attached image from attempting previous post...

Also on Edge, I got that jumping to top of page problem when clicking the post-options drop down ... which was fixed a long time back!

Also on here (IE) attaching that image placed it at the top of the post (not at the cursor) and over wrote part of the post.  Does no one have control over Lithium's QA?

Re: Forum and Edge issues

It looks like Edge is having problems with javascript if the page is jumping to the top of the page when interacting with elements that require js.

Can you confirm that you have JS enabled in your browser? I know this may be a little bit of a tall order but could you enable the dev tools in EDGE and tell me any error codes that you may see when loading the page? My best guess is that there is something wrong with the javascript in the edge browser.

I will also fire up my VM of windows with Edge and see if I can replicate the problem.

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Hi @Townman, posting this from Edge browser and I am not seeing any issues. The mention functions work, the editor work, menus work, all javascript reliant stuff works... so I am not seeing any issues.

Would it be possible to check that your Edge browser has JS enabled and that you aren't blocking anything at all?

Re: Forum and Edge issues

@Mav

Can you please also merge my other recent thread on Avatars not displaying (https://community.plus.net/t5/Community-Site-Feedback/Avatars-not-displaying/m-p/1397083#M12010) - I think this and that are related.

@jaread83

Until a few days ago all was working fine here.  Now I find that something under Edge are not working any longer, whilst they do in IE.  I am not aware of doing anything in respect of JS - as far as I can tell (and there is not obvious means to determine) JS is working for Edge.  I have reduced the issue down to its simplest form - trying to display my avatar.

https://community.plus.net/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/263iF0870FDD2720BBFF/image-dimensions/64x64/...

Displays OK in IE but not in Edge.

The Edge diagnostic console records a number off issues ... yes I know some think that the Edge diagnostic console is a heap of dung, but given clean code, one ought not to be seeing this level of error reports - look at the number of graphics which cannot be "decoded".

Re: Forum and Edge issues

@jaread83.

OK so I am officially in the twilight zone - now on my other laptop using Win10 and the same version of Edge...

No purple border around the rich text box, @username works as normal and all graphics are displaying OK.

Looks like something odd-ball is happening on the other PC, but it is all very subtle!

If I find an answer I'll report back ... things being a little bit broken ought not to work a little bit better in other places!

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Do not know if this helps - comparing console errors reported, the working platform only reports 4.  The diverge at the 4th one above...

SCRIPT1014: Invalid character
jquery.min.js (1,1)

Tool tip on that refers to https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js - does this give any clues?

Going to look at clearing the Edge's cache for the community.

Edit: now using an InPrivate window and all is fine ... clearly need some DDT around here!

Re: Forum and Edge issues

OK I fully confess to may be having totally lost the plot here. Ticked_off Crazy3

A machine restart and many of the issues mentioned here have simply vanished ... which is odd, because of other technical issues, I had a number of machine restarts over recent days.

However some - well known normally OK avatars are still not displaying - amongst them Darkfire, MatthewWheeler, 198kHz

Something very odd is going on...

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Fix

Baffled beyond comprehension!!!

Cleared the cache and suddenly it has started working again OK.

Just do not understand this ... rather implies a corruption of my cache store ... now starting to wonder if this is all detrimental to my recent spate of BSoDs arising from a memory upgrade last week?

@jaread83 - this is one for the scrapbook - cache failure (duff local files or local files not being correctly updated) leading to part functioning and part failing web pages, but not a total failure is to say the least very odd!

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Have you tried running a thorough memory diagnostic program, such as MemTest86 (or possibly even the one included with Windows)?

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Hi @ejs,

As ever tech problems come at the least convenient time and always in a crowd.

I removed the problem memory and reinstalled the original.  I then sought to contact the supplier to enquire about replacement, but Amazon only seems to support refunds.  Thought I had better do a proper test on the memory as you suggest and I downloaded a memory test program, burnt a CD, reinstalled the memory to test it.  Cannot get the PC to boot from the CD ... but the memory has now run fine for 30+ hours ... might have been a seating issue.

Had better check out the CD in the other machine.

In the mean time having odd issues getting OneDrive to work on the other machine - computer problems are like busses, you never see one and then you get 3 all at once ... when you don't need them.

Re: Forum and Edge issues

Sounds like your pc is having a lot of issues Buck2 I will keep my eye on this though and keep testing a myriad of different browser configurations till I break it myself.
