Fed up with forums not working properly!

Is it just me or is everyone else experiencing more problems with the forums failing to respond? It used to be mainly when making posts with attachments that is failed. Recently making posts without attachments are failing as well - yesterday was particularly bad. Today, from the list of Replies to your posts I middle click the New icon (to open in new tabs) and only two of the six worked straight away. Two more took around a minute to respond and two more totally failed.
I'm wondering about trying putting one of the IPs (212.159.9.110 and 212.159.8.110) in to the hosts file to see if that improves things. Has anyone tried this? If so is one of the IPs better than the other?

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

It seems to have been a constant "feature" for some time as far as I'm concerned and as I rarely if ever use attachments I don't see that as a factor.
As for yesterday, I can't comment as I was "locked out" most of the day for unknown reasons that caused a database error.
The sequence normally goes:
Click reply, type what I want to say in the window and click on Post.
Then it goes wrong and eventually , often after a retry, I get a message saying I'm posting nothing.
Using the browser "back" button generally gets me back to the window with my text in and I resubmit, which more often than not goes in OK.
Edit: It happened on this post as well......  Cry
And again when editing that comment in!  Angry

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

I suspect it's because some of the packets from the forums arrive at your router from a wrong IP address and therefore hit your router's firewall (and couldn't be NATed to an internal IP anyway - your router would not be able to match it against an outgoing connection because there is no outgoing connection that IP address).
One of 212.159.9.110 and 212.159.8.110 has a shorter route from PCL gateways and the other has a shorter route from PTN, I can't remember which is which, and I don't think it makes any difference.

Why https? - clicking your link gave a Firefox message about non-secure content.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

Yeah I find the forum incredibly slow at times too. I don't bother with attachments though, I stopped using those moons ago as I learnt early on that it stopped the post being processed.
The last couple of days have been bad for posting replies, I find it takes an age but then open a new tab to the topic list and it's already been processed but the other tab has no html content sent back from the server (which is odd considering the second tabs http request was able to access the session that the first tab should theoretically still be using!)
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Why not https? If Plusnet feel the need to fill their web pages tracking scripts but can't be bothered to make them work properly with https, that's not my fault. See: http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,117122.0.html - that's just another ignored thread which gives the impression Plusnet can't be bothered to fix anything about these forums.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

Every time I compose a reply, I click on post and I get "webpage cannot be found" (or words to that effect), luckily I click back and my post is still there. Sometimes this happens 2 or 3 times before the post actually is sent.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

Wow - a thread about the forums being slow, do I detect Deja Vu here Tongue
But on a more serious note, its just happened to me. I was posting a one line reply to Chit Chat with no attachment and I got a SMF warning about my session having timed out.
Not sure if the post went though (*goes to check*) - no it didn't. Using IE9.
I should have taken a screen shot, but then if I had, I probably wouldn't be able to post it here.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

I'm finding it's a bit better for the last 24 hours - but of course I don't know if that is because of me putting the entry in the hosts file or because it's been better anyway.
How are other people finding it now?

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

I haven't been able to connect to the forum for the last 2 hours tho' the rest of the PN website was ok - tried rebooting the router but it didn't make any difference tracert simply timed out every connection. Rebooted the pc in the end and got on OK but not sure if it was just co-incidence as there was no problem with any other browsing I did.
Editto add: I have Windows 7 Prof, Google Chrome.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

Using direct link http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php it took a good 40 seconds or 2 sips of coffee before it loaded, usually it is instant but not today.  Using primary 8.8.4.4 / secondary 212.159.6.9 and 208.67.220.220 / 212.159.6.10 next down the queue on pcl-ag03

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

I don't think the forum issues are a DNS problem. While I have the VPN to the office open the PC uses the office DNS server. I've noticed no difference between what it's like using that or using the router as DNS server when the VPN is not connected.

Re: Fed up with forums not working properly!

I can confirm that - I use Google DNS and I see the same problems
