What you said isn't an acceptable way to refer to anyone Jim whether that be a real person or not, I was the one who reported it to the mods.

But Jess is not a person in any sense - it's a service and most of the time not overly useful.

Ridiculous what next?
Will a real person coming here to complain about their connection be told that their line is actually named Robert and because of that they are not allowed to be critical of it in any way.
"Jess" is imaginary. You can't slander or be rude to an imaginary something.

It wasn't that it was directed at Jess, it was the phrase that was used.

I'm really struggling to find something inoffensive to say about Jess?
I've never received a useful response from her (?) despite her years of 'on the job training'

Unfortunately I can't remember the offending words although I wasn't aware you could insult a mythical entity

I think I managed to find an un-edited version of the post title. It was disappointing and really not worth the effort, not that it was that much effort.

Re: Did you know that making a disparaging remark about Jess isn't acceptable

I didn't read the unedited post, but I assume it was a negative post about
your automated chat system which isn't a real person?
Political correctness has gone mad on this forum.
Next I'll be getting my posts moderated and get banned for making negative remarks about mine, somebody else's or another company's computer.
Maybe there should be a new forum rule about "Making negative remarks about technology" then?

Re: Did you know that making a disparaging remark about Jess isn't acceptable

Alex,
It seems the way now, everywhere with everything.
The way one comments about something which is wrong or the words one used, are "attacked" to dismiss the complaint, rather than the respondent putting some effort into addressing what's actually wrong.  No one seems to really care about addressing the reasons for the complaint, they are though overly keen to attack the complainant by any means available.  Is it not surprising that people with justifiable complaints end up using sometimes colourful language - their frustration is quite understandable.  When there can be no complaint about the way (tone) in which the complaint is raised or the language used, then alternative response is to claim that one is simply "being negative".  It makes one very reluctant to offer open and honest comment.
I've always thought it better to respond with something like "I'm sorry you are so frustrated by this situation - this is what I will do to remedy the defects..." - far better than responding "You just cannot say that like that ..." and doing nothing about the issue.  "OK" seems to be "acceptable" these days, rather than aiming for betterment and excellence.
I am very disappointed by the way this matter has been handled - I cannot discern any intent to address the substance of Jim's concerns.  Sadly it is a reoccurring theme at the moment.

I didn't read the unedited post

So not really in a position to pass such a judgement then.
I did read it and found the term used (which was then removed) offensive and inappropriate.
