Contacting members direct and off Forum

I guess Joe Blog and other forum members cannot see these, and why should they be able to -  but can plusnet mods and admins. Again I'm guessing yes, so where there is a need how can they be kept totally private?

Just a thought in this world of total surveillance.

If you're talking about PMs then, as far as I'm aware, the only people who can see them are the sender and the recipient.

@Minivanman On forums where I'm either admin or mod I can only see private messages addressed to me and no others.

I doubt they see any text you pass onto another person but it might show up as ip contact ip or whatever are these forums part of smf still ?

Forum mods/admins who aint directly employed by plusnet would not be allowed to have access to this infomation i would have thought anyways due to data protection ... blaaaa

Whilst the op has been answered correctly consider the following.....

Forum member x sends a private message to forum member y. The content contains material that forum member Y considers offensive and reports it to the police. PN will then be required to pass a copy to the police/courts so a number of other people will have access to that Private Message.

So we can never say that PM are private in every instance, I guess this situation has never occured to date but who can predict the future, remember some forum posts have been deleted due to inappropriate comments but moderators cannot see the contents of a PM and thus block it based on the content.

So the answer is yes, plusnet can see them if they want to, but it's not normal practice to do so?

From the post that @gleneagles made I assume, and makes sense I guess. There is a report to mods option on messages they must be viewable (or made viewable) in order to act on a report.

If someone wants to send me a PM I can report it to prove the theory.
