Re: Universal Service Obligation - phone line

Mobile broadband could be cheaper than landline broadband.

Look at https://www.mobiles.co.uk/vodafone-sim-only-deals?tariffcode=KLFCMNOV21&affiliate=Adwords%7C%7C%7Cun...

Also https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/best-mobile-hotspots-for-3g-4g-and-5g

There’s a shed load of options out there if a land line is not available. You might be better off seeking grant funding for a mobile service than paying to cover the cost of BT infrastructure not-spots.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Universal Service Obligation - phone line

Have you thought about Satellite Broadband? There are tons of options, good speeds and unlimited options.

Sorry we couldn't help Smiley

Re: Universal Service Obligation - phone line

Thanks for the links.  We'd need to use EE if we take the mobile route as it's the strongest signal in the village.  The one thing which concerns us about mobile is exceeding the data limit as we can't afford £50 per month for an unlimited data SIM.  100GB is affordable and about the same price as landline but I've no idea if 100GB would be sufficient.  Estimating demand is impossible,

Re: Universal Service Obligation - phone line

I use an EE unlimited business SIM only deal, and it costs just over £34pm inc. VAT. The unlimited business SIM only deal is often cheaper than the personal version for some reason. You then need a decent 4G (5G?) router, and for a village hall probably a separate WiFi access point. I use Ubiquiti APs to provide WiFi for a campsite, covering a couple of acres and several buildings - they are rock solid, and very configurable. I've had >100 devices connected without issue.

This is very interesting. Thank you very much for the information.  I'll need to investigate business data deals with EE.  I haven't seen your deal advertised anywhere.  It does make it more affordable and, being unlimited data, worry free. Cheers! 👍

Re: Universal Service Obligation - phone line

You need to look at the SIM only phone deals - the data deals don't offer unlimited data! Currently the unlimited SIM only deal is £23.75+VAT per months on a 24 month deal - shorter terms cost more.

When I ordered I asked about using a phone SIM in a router and was told that it was perfectly OK (they are no longer allowed to restrict the device you use)..

Better and better.  I've just found that phone deal at £23.75 + VAT.  I'll check it out with EE. Thank you!
