How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

I've recently changed my business broadband connection from PM to Openreach, but still (for the time being at least) paying my monthly subscription to PN.  My question is how long do I have before my "acme.plus.com" domain (and associated email boxes) are switched off by PN?

Thanks

Re: How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

Fix

VERY SOON!

This is going to look like tears before bedtime if you do not act quickly.  You need to find a new hosting provider for email - URGENTLY.

I have find mythic-beasts very proficient - I transferred a domain from 123reg (and connecting hosting platforms) to then in under half a day ... though it took a while for the change to fully propagate.

Helpfully I had full control of the domain name via 123reg's portal so I could do the tag change myself and the registration move was near instantaneous.  That will not be the case here - after you have set up your account with YOUR choice of provider, you will need to raise a support request to have the domain tags changed.  Change could take a couple of days.

This challenge was predictable thus the SUs requested a facilitated exit procedure for business users with host domain names.  Guess that did not happen.  Your account ought not to have been migrated until the attached service had been manged a way successfully.

@MisterW is the guru on migrating email!

Re: How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

I'm not sure what you are meaning in your first part about "PM to Openreach".

I'm guessing you are saying you have a new broadband account with another supplier, but still have your PN Connection as well?  If that is correct, your domain will stay active until the earlier of this happening:

  1. You cancel your Plusnet account
  2. Plusnet close their business services.  Plusnet haven't released a date for this happening yet, or exactly what they will do with any remaining business accounts at that date

It may be possible that you've negotiated something else with Plusnet, but I've not heard of that having been an option, but if that is the case then it would depend on what you've agreed with them.

Edit: @Townman's typing a bit quicker than me.  I think his assumption is based on you having already migrated away (or in the process of migrating away), whereas mine is based on you saying you're still "paying my monthly subscription to PN".  Either way what @Townman says is correct and getting your email away from Plusnet (ideally to your own domain away form Plusnet) should be high priority for you, and especially before you close your account.

@pjmarsh  I think PM should be PN and was probably an autocorrect glitch Smiley

Re: How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

@dvorak, I did wonder, but the "to Openreach" bit still doesn't make sense.  If it's PN to [another Openreach ISP] then it would partly make sense, but then they wouldn't be paying Plusnet anymore, unless they are in the process of migrating (which I think is @Townman's assumption)

Re: How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

@pjmarsh

Given the user's awareness "My question is how long do I have before my "acme.plus.com" domain (and associated email boxes) are switched off by PN?" I took the view of not guessing about how long, but key actions which are needed to protect the future of the business' domain name.

I fear that Plusnet do not have the means to manage a domain if the owning account dies.  Personally I'd pick up my pleats and run like yesterday's wind!

To amplify the point, see this saga of someone who did not act before the account closed - Just left plusnet business, now I'm told I have lo... - Plusnet Community

Re: How long before Plusnet retires my business domain?

Thanks for your reply.  We are indeed acting quickly to move away from PlusNet and my question was about whether PN have set a hard deadline.  From various responses it seems no specific date, but consensus is to move ASAP.

FWIW, this coincides with an overall office systems upgrade for our business...  Openreach for broadband, fasthosts for our (new) domain, MS 365 for apps and cloud storage.

@TFP_IFA  Still confused by your posts, Openreach are not s Broadband supplier, do you actually mean BT, presumably BT Business?

@TFP_IFA

There is another thing to consider: Do you use POP3 or IMAP to access all your emails?

If you use POP3 you will have all your sent and received emails on your internal computer system (presumably backed up). If you use IMAP you need to be aware that unless you have specifically downloaded copies then all your emails are stored, not on your computer but on the Plusnet server. These will all be deleted when your account closes.
