What will the engineer do when he gets here?

The engineer will carry out some tests from your telephone socket which should allow him/her to track and locate the location of the fault so that repair work can be undertaken.

The engineer has said that the cabling in the outside of my house that goes to the black box on the wall is shot and needs replacing, will I have to pay for that or not?

If it's external cabling, you will not be charged.

The engineer has been and gone and the problem was all down to the external cabling that goes to the black box on the outside of my house. Another engineer had to come and install a new cable because the engineer said the old cable was "knackered" and "shot", so far my connection has been good so far
