Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

Well keep an ear on that crackling noise - that could be indicative of a bad joint. If you want to, run the Quiet Line Test on 17070 option 2. (Don't try other options!).
If your extension leads have a bell-wire in them (which is probable), then yes you are more likely to pick up outside interference, electrical interference, lightning, radio transmission - Amateur & CB etc. It can all possibly have an effect.
The incoming BT cable looks fine, goes to what seems to be a BT77A connector - fine. Cable to master socket - not sure.
That plug in 'block' in the master socket - the bit with two sockets, is there a cable coming out of the bottom of it and where does it go?
As for your plug-in extension lead, not sure. Can you post a picture of the socket on the other end?
Are you any good at DIY?
As far as the stats go, well no drop since yesterday, but as I said before, there are some errors there and there has been a dip of 2.5dB in the SNRM which will probably recover in daylight.

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

OK, I can see where all the potential problems are likely to be. No need to be afraid of telecoms, the basics are straight forward once explained  Wink
I'll have a think about a few suggestions for you, if you can post a picture of the socket and filter that the phone is connected to that will help.

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

Hi there, the extension lead to that socket for the phone looks like a flat lead - not the best, is it flat?

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

The stats are useful, and are showing the connection is still dropping, unless you forced a reboot, just after 2.30pm assuming those stats were moments before you posted.. Your Noise Margin is reducing by 2dB again after dark.
Because the error count isn't too high I'm guessing it's all down to bell-wires in these extension leads. The real difficulty in dealing with this in the best way is that you don't have a modern NTE5a Master Socket (the one on the left).  We could do with knowing the Fault Threshold Rate for your line, there may be a crafty way of getting this resolved, if one of the Plusnet team can help out.

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

You aren't allowed to touch it, it's OpenReach's property, only they can come and change it, that's why I'm looking at what possibilities there maybe for getting it done for free. Failing that there other solutions, but a bit more fiddly. Who do you pay line rental to?

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

Thanks for that Chris, very useful, still showing a few drops.
Hi doncoyle,
Your extension lead that currently goes from the master socket to where you have the modem/router, is there any spare length on it, if so, roughly how much?

Re: faulty download speed @ 0.250Mb

No, no, no, flat leads are a disaster, especially from places that you've mentioned. They pick up more interference and you will get connection drops all over the place after dark. At least you other lead was round and a chance that it could be a twisted pair cable - but still got a bell wire connected nevertheless.
It doesn't matter about a shorter lead, I had another reason for asking. But Please use the Disconnect method and go back to your other lead at least an hour well before sunset.
