Why is Eth4 highlighted in red?

Hi

My 2704n router has four yellow Eth sockets on the back.

Eth4 is highlighted in red.

Why?

I can't find any reference to it anywhere.

Thanks

Re: Why is Eth4 highlighted in red?

It indicates the WAN socket to be used in an FTTP install.

Re: Why is Eth4 highlighted in red?

@ankado

When used on ADSL it means nothing and works in exactly the same way as the others. However the hub can be configured to work as a simple router rather than a combined ADSL modem/router. It can then be used with a fibre modem or on a FTTP connection.

If it is configured as a straight modem then as @Browni  says you lose the use of this socket as a LAN output but instead it becomes the WAN input from the outside world, bypassing the modem section.

The configuration can be changed in the expert_user settings.
