Hi Folks!
OR person has duly been, well within his time slot. He has done all his checks and says that the line is working well. I showed him the evidence of noise/disconnections etc., on the Radius logs and the data of severe reductions in actual download speeds that have occurred this year (admittedly fairly rare) but giving slug-like downloading. His test gear gave figures that generally agreed with what BTwholesale Tester and Belkin say which is some comfort. He suggested that I carry on monitoring and raise a ticket when the actual download speed is seriously affected. This might not be practical when they occur in the small hours of the morning of course.
It might be useful  if you look at the log from 14th July
Any advice from you????

The faults Team should be back in touch with you at some point within the next 24 hours, we'll see what their testing shows.

OK Chris,
I thought it best to report when The visit happened.
Speeds are fairly constant typically 5.8M ish for line rate, at 13db Noise margin and download about 3.3M. I note that the profile is now set to 3.5M.today. Not as good as they have been recently.

Hi Chris's,
I have spoken to Faults Team chappie and he has booked an engineer for next Monday pm. Knowing that the last one found nothing wrong and knowing that the problem is intermittent, it is quite likely another visit will repeat the experience. Am I due to get numerous bills for £60 for every unsuccessful engineer's visits?
I have asked for a Radius print starting with the 14th July for as long as possible to see for myself what is going on and be able to show the engineer. It might be helpful.

If you've got an iffy joint somewhere, a good engineer with his Hawk tester should be able to track it down  Wink

I cannot say that the first engineer visit inspired me with much confidence. He had a somewhat complicated box which was able to confirm the line speed conditions etc., which tallied with Belkin N router.
He also listened to the phone and observed that it was quiet. Apart from that he showed me some graphs on his magic box which did not seem to be very helpful and he was not able to tell me what they represented!
If I get time I might invest in some more proper BT filters. Some of mine are not the dongle variety and, I suppose, might not be as good as posher ones but they have not changed since your welcome visit.
I am still awaiting another Radius report, I hope that it is here before the engineer visit on Monday pm.

Yes Thanks Chris,
I have now had a very full communication from the Faults Boys which included the Radius display that you have kindly supplied. It all looks fairly nasty to me. Sometimes the whole day can go without anything  wrong at all, other days not very good at all. I have noted that DLM has been steadily slowing down Down line speed and increasing the noise margin a bit so clearly even it is not impressed! I do not think that the majority of batches of interruptions seem to be in very unsocial hours for us!!

Hi! All,
OR engineer duly arrived yesterday. A much more switched on one than last time. He did a long series of tests at the terminal box and agreed that all was not as it should be. He disappeared for a substantial time and appeared to have every junction box between here and the exchange. He found several poor joints along the line and, I think, selected a better pair as well. He suggested that i continue my recording of Belkin figures daily for the next 10 day's during the training period. This I will do. So far the figures show a steady increase in line speed at sensible noise margins. Unless you advise otherwise I will post them all at the end of the trial.  It looks good!!

Hi,
The line is looking much better now. We're awaiting DLM to update the CVLAN Profile so you'll start to see an improvement in speeds. Once this updates, the profile on our side will update too.
I've just completed a copper test too which looks absolutely fine, Fingers crossed the issue is hopefully sorted for you.

Hi Chris!
I will try to do that for the first few samples as a start, followed by chunks over the 10days. Remember that the Belkin N is not very verbose and the data available is only as you have seen above. I will include a few BTW Tester reports which will give matching figures for Actual Download speed and profiles, if that helps. It would help if a Radius was taken from the 25th onwards to tie in with the last one.
