Just did a download test as you can see below.  Still getting the same slow down load speeds as before Sad
I did remember the syncing speed was 7600k last night showing on my router but with very slow download speed.  Higher syncing speed should yield faster download right?

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

Hi Jason,
Yeah, the higher sync rate will give you a higher profile. The profile won't go up straight away though. The line has to be seen to be stable by BT's Dynamic Line Management (DLM) system which will change depending on how much of an increase there is. See here for how long it takes. I do think you could get a better sync rate but the current SNR of 16dB will be keeping that down at the moment. The first thing I would do is keep it stable where it is now so that the profile  will increase. I'm not back in work until Thursday so when I get back if the line has been stable I'll reset the SNR to 6dB and that will lift your sync rate up again.

Hi Joanne,
Many thanks, you've been immensly helpful even at this time of night Smiley
I will do what you suggest. Hopefully it will get better before then.

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

Hi Jason,
No worries, I'm glad to have been able to help. Once it goes back up to 3500k at lest that will give you quite a bit of functionality for the time being before we start looking furhter into it.

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

It would be good to find out what was causing the problems before you changed to the test socket.
Can you confirm that when you removed the lower half of the face plate there was a wire connected to the back of it? That wire goes to the other extensions and while you are plugged in to the test socket the other extensions will be dead. Do you have anything plugged in to the extensions?

Hi Jelv,
Just a faceplate came out with no wires connected to the back of it.

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

That's not a proper master socket then. Sad
Is that the only one with a removable lower half?

Not sure what a proper master socket is but that's the only one I have.

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

Hi,
A quick update, BT Engineer has came today and concluded the following:
1) Sync speed was 4.4meg
2) PQ test was fine
3) Speeds locked at critical stage
4) Downloads speeds worse than dial up!
5) bRAS profile need to be raised.
In other words everything is fine on my end.
Plusnet, can you raise my bRAS profile now?
Regards

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

I've done another line test on the BT Speed Tester.
Download speedachieved during the test was - 48 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :0 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 8.18:16.16:75.66 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

The download speeds I'm seeing is still worse than the acceptable speed range for my connection.
Are my download speeds capped?
I'm on Plusnet Unlimited and the minimum capped speeds is 256kbp and I'm not even seeing that. I should be seeing much better download speeds at this time of morning!
It's getting very frustrating now Sad

Unfortunately the bRAS is in the exchange and owned by our suppliers, it's not something we have any control over. The profile should update itself provided you maintain that sync speed for 3 days however (that's not to say that you can't disconnect and reconnect, however if you do sync at a lower speed following a connection your profile won't uplift).
The reason for your slow speed is the 135k profile that your line is set to - that's set at the exchange rather than on any of our systems.

Re: Very slow speeds since 15th Oct

Hi Matt,
Well the sync speed has dropped and I will have to wait until tomorrow morning to disconnect and reconnect!
So are you saying there is nothing Plusnet can do about it? Can you contact your supplier and get that raised.  Can't believe I have to wait that long for my bRAS profile to raise.
This is on going with BT blaming PN and PN blaming BT.  It might be easier said then done but it's gone on for nearly two weeks now with no real solution.
