Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Hi MJN,
I think the best thing to do here would be to run through the usual fault diagnostics and raise a fault. Looking at the connection logs it does seem to be dropping fairly often:

It'll be those drops that are keeping the speeds down, we should be able to get them resolved and it's likely that if we move you back onto ADSL1 (which would likely be ADSL1 on 21CN) the problem would remain.

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Just to follow-up, I've raised a ticket (ref #58257040).
As touched on under the faults Q&A I haven't tested with another router but will do so if/as advised. I shalln't start messing now as I'm sure the last thing the team need when diagnosing resyncs is me rebooting modems etc!
Thanks again for your continued help and finger's crossed I can get my connection back! If nothing else my cat feeder relies on it so I'm having to lash up a dialup modem to phone in to it! As retro as that might be it's not really what I'm after...  Wink

OK, I'm glad you've raised a fault ticket, our faults team should be getting back to you ASAP.

The mental image I have right now is very Heath Roninson-esque, I hope your cat gets their treats on time! Smiley

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Ha ha, yeah it is a bit. It works though and there's something a little quirky about dialing and it answering the phone!
Joking aside, I ought to point out that the feeder is only used very occasionally so it's not that big an issue for it that my connection is currently so unstable - I wouldn't want anyone thinking lives are depending on it! That said, you'd be forgiven for thinking they did given by the reaction when iplayer etc start buffering as the connection falls over...  Wink

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

To close this off I'd like to offer my thanks for the efforts gone into resolving this issue as well as an apology given the fact that it appears to have been an equipment issue (mine) to blame for all the instability!
Having raised a fault ticket a number of tests were performed and could not find fault with the line. One of your colleagues spotted that the instability tended to occur during the evening and whilst there were no obvious interference sources that could explain it there was a suspected correlation with times of high usage. This seemed to point the finger of blame more towards equipment issues rather than the line itself.
I swapped in another router and whilst other changes were also made at the same time (interleaving and an upstream cap of 444kbps) this seemed to cure the instability. The cap has now been removed (interleaving kept on thus still capped at 888kbps) and all seems to be good.
Issues with Cisco routers and ADSL2+ are seemingly very common judging by various forum posts all over the place, however they were supposedly all mopped up with the latest firmware releases. Apparently not in my case.
So, again, thanks for all your help and efforts - and my apologies for it seemingly being my kit all along!
One final question if I may: Does it matter that my 10-day training period was plagued throughout by all the disconnections? Might it have skewed anything with a long term effect?
Regards,
Mathew

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Not a problem at all, always worth it to track down what's actually going on Smiley
Regarding the profile, by the sounds of it your connection wasn't dropping particularly often during the training period and the resyncs will actually have helped the line establish its limits. If you're worried we can do an SNR reset and let it retrain if you like? That can be done at any time provided the connection is stable, just let us know. I don't think there'll be a major difference if any but it's no hassle Smiley
PS I know we've refused them before but that only happens if the connection isn't stable or a customer is asking repeatedly for resets to be done.

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Well you've done it now Matt - if there's an implication that it might be worthwhile, or at worst won't do any harm, then that's an irresistable carrot to dangle in front of someone with OCD tendencies! So, now that my connection has settled following the change of equipment and is now representative of the setup and conditions I shall be going forwards with it would be appreciated if you could restart the training at your convenience.
Point taken that this shouldn't become a regular occurance so rest assured I shalln't make it one!

Re: Unexpected transition to ADSL2+/21CN?

Just a cheeky nudge to see if you can get the SNR reset if that's still okay Matt (assuming of course it hasn't done already).
