Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

This might also be of interest re BQM data...

  When I set this up a few months back I tried out several different routers...  an old TP-link,  My PN Hub2 and the Synology WRX560 that I normally use.   It was quite interesting to see the different results simply based on the same network performance and the different routers...  My WRX560 graph shows regular failure to respond to the pings, we put this down to the router being busy doing more useful stuff and not bothering to reply to the pings, I also had to adjust the Denial Of Service settings to allow it to handle multiple frequent ICMP pings.

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

Thanks @Ian06 that's added.

@outcast I've had to change the URL to https://homepages.plus.net/dtomlinson/ping_graphs.html while I work out how to edit the Community page.

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

@dave  that looks much better !

Are you manually having to add the BQM URLs in to the raw BBCode table coding ?

If so, you might be able to use an online BBCode generator to create formatted table code from a data file ?

Thanks, yeah, it's a bit manual but mostly due to laziness Smiley

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

@dave / @bobpullen

Following restitution of my IPv6 trial engagement, I thought I'd add an IPv6 TBBQM graph.  Sounded simples, but I cannot get it working.  Questions...

  • Which IPv6 address for the router (WAN) should I use - Global unicast address or something else
  • Incoming ping: Allow incoming ping requests to the Hub's public IP address, is enabled and works for IPv4.  Is there a distinct control over IPv6 / does the HUB2 support ping on IPv6

In passing @dave your graph looks grim!

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

IIRC correctly the Hub2 does not support ping on IPv6.

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

Yeah Hub2 doesn't support ping on IPv6 as far as I can tell.

I think my server was trying to do some backups, badly, looks like it's uploaded over 1TB in the couple of days. My graph will hopefully be normal again shortly Smiley

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

You need a globally unique address to be reachable from the wider internet - so 2a02:16c8:2000:xxxxxxxxxx format address for the Plusnet trial.

I don't use the Hub2, but with it being IP6, if you have something 'inside' that's always on, and which you've turned off address randomisation / privacy / assigned it statically, you might be able to use that instead?

If you don't turn off randomisation/privacy, then you might find that the IP6 address changes every time you restart or reconnect to the connection.

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

@MPC

I was reaching the conclusion that with the HUB2 the only way of getting IPv6 ping to work would be to put a pin-hole in to route pings to an always on device ... or put one into the DMZ.

@bobpullen

Is there any prospect of a firmware development for the HUB2 to support IPv6 pings?  If not is such on the requirements list for a future 'basic' hub offering please?

@Townman - the Plusnet implementation is largely inherited from the BT Business Smart Hub 2. I will try and do some sleuthing, but by extension, I suspect the behaviour is the same across both.

I recall taking a quick look at it a while back and noted the v4 ping response was being overseen by a BBF data model parameter, and I couldn't see an equivalent for v6 (else I'd have tried remotely enabling it on a few trialists' hubs).

If my assumption is correct, and v6 ping response doesn't work on the BT Business hub then I wouldn't hold your breath for any developments. Even if I were to go full charm offensive, it would be a v.hard sell 😉

If it is working on the Business hub, then things might be more palatable.

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

@bobpullen & @dave

Thank you for clarifying / affirming that the HUB2 does not natively support IPv6 ping.

Is that universally or just on the WAN side?

Re: Thinkbroadband BQM Graphs

I can ping the LAN unicast address so it's not universal.
