Re: Speeds slowing by the day

I'm afraid you need hours of plots. An Intermittent connection is by definition intermittent and random. When it starts playing up I would expect to see some rather wild dips (mainly) in the SNRM - not to be confused with the variations you will see during hours of darkness. If you've maximised the RSL window, then minimise it to the Tray and carry on with whatever. Obviously you can look at if from time to time if you wish.
I do note that the DS Attenuation has changed again - so suspected bad joint, but more evidence is desirable. Intermittent faults are usually a real .... to find and often do not always show up on line tests.

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

Thanks
I need to find a suitable slot to let this PC run for a few hours then. It's a tad difficult as it's in a bedroom so overnight is not an option.
Leave it with me  Smiley

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

Not really a great deal showing from connection logs:

I suspect you'd be seeing errors on the line in your graphs coinciding with those drops, if so we can definitely investigate that as a fault if you wish?

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

It does look like the disconnections are far less frequent now.  Smiley
I'm probably up the wrong tree but I have a theory. During the week I don't use my PC at all = very little or no BB activity. Every morning I've been performing a Speedtest.net on my HTC Wildfire (wireless but within 1' of the router) at circa 05:00 and the results drop daily by a hundred or 2 Kb's. I take 3 readings and delete the slowest 2.
At the weekend I followed A1's advice and I downloaded and started Routerstat Lite. This was churning away in the background for most of the day presumably giving my connection a bit of a workout?
I had performed a PC speedtest via the utility here earlier in the day and I performed another speedtest using the checker here and my calculated speed had increased by 1.5mbps (ish) to a quite respectable 5.6Mbps from the just over 4Mbps earlier in the day.
So does DLM take usage/activity into account ?
This weekend I'm intending to fire up the PC and try to leave it running for the whole or as much of the 72 hours and see if I can get a Routerstat reading at a time when the connection has dropped for analysis.
Thanks for your time and leave it with me.

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

DLM doesn't take usage/activity into account. It does know if you have a PPP session. If you drop that (ie a Disconnect by logging in and clicking Disconnect - in theory it should ignore the connection - well certainly a switch off and a switch on. Possibly the slightly improved weather may have some bearing on it - a cable joint dried out?

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

No doubt it will stay connected all through the BH weekend and reveal nothing !
Funny my speeds should increase throughout Sunday with Routerstat 'giving it some' all day Smiley

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

You mean a Visual Radius Graph of your PPP Internet sessions I guess Wink  which as long as you haven't been Gateway hopping, will reflect any drops in sync. It's always a worthwhile and informative thing to check on, I'm sure one of the DCT will do that for you.
I assume from the way you have phrased your post, that the above are speed test results. It' might also be good if someone checks that your Current Line Speed matches the current BT IP Profile and bump it, if not.
Look forward to a few RSL graphs

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

Hi
Just looking for the same as Matt has posted above just to show me my latest history of disconnections. If I haven't had any since the last one shown above then no point in letting Routerstat do any monitoring.
= job done I'll go away  Smiley

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

It's looking good (though please bear in mind your router logs will show the same - or very similar - information):
<img src="http://ccgi.psmith12.plus.com/visradius/generated/image13693833501222.png"/>
I can also confirm your line profiles are matching, 4882 on BTs side and 4800 on ours.

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

OK
Sunday 19th 08:00, 21:30
Tuesday 21st 18:00
That's starting to look stable now
Where are the router logs that show a longer history? The only one I've spotted only seems to have a short history mainly showing date and time updates.
thanks

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

That's good news - no recent drops.
The sort of entry you would see is -
Mar 21 12:16:56 xDSL linestate down
Mar 21 12:17:10 xDSL linestate up (ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 7584 kbit/s, upstream: 832 kbit/s; output Power Down: 19.8 dBm, Up: 12.5 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 21.0 dB, Up: 14.0 dB; snr Margin Down: 6.1 dB, Up: 12.0 dB)  (I pinched that from someone's post a while back).
Yours would have your own stats in of course.

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

Yes, that's sort of log I've spotted with the green, amber and occasional red symbols.
On screen I can only see just over 24 hours worth of data which certainly wouldn't show my last disconnection on Tuesday as it will by now have dropped off the bottom. Is there a local logfile that shows a longer history?

Re: Speeds slowing by the day

You need to Telnet into the Modem/Router and use a CLI command. Is that a process you are familiar with or might be comfortable with trying?
