Re: Speed through the floor.

It is supposed to be totally silent - if I listen to the test it's just the same as if you were holding down the button to disconnect the call so I'm a bit worried by you saying "you can hear that you are electrically connected".

Re: Speed through the floor.

Hi Jelv, its hard to describe, its silence but not as we know it. I have re run the test with our old plug-in telephone and i cant hear anything. I suppose its a function of the cordless handset being open to the base station. A bit like being in a large auditorium, its silent, but there's an acoustic quality. Don't know if that makes sense?  Cheers,  Guy.

Re: Speed through the floor.

It made perfect sense.
You can do this test without disconnecting the broadband. I'd like to see a comparison of the stats when the wired phone is in use (e.g. listening to the quiet line test) and the cordless phone is in use. Yours wouldn't be the first to cause problems!
Is the base unit near the router (i.e. closer than 2 or three feet)?

Re: Speed through the floor.

It is quite close, although there is a wall between them.  The router (old) has been in the same position for several years without problems though.  I shall run the test again with both phones. I assume its the router stats you want to see while the test is running?  ta

Re: Speed through the floor.

Thought: Can you have the base unit off when you run the wired phone test.

Re: Speed through the floor.

Excellent! I was just a bit worried by your comment about the quiet line test.
Keep an eye on those stats for the noise margin dropping.
Is that a Netgear router? If so you could run RouterStats which gives you a graph of your noise margin. http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm#routerstats
Edit: Just back through your posts and seen it is a Netgear - thoroughly recommend router stats. You can set an alarm to sound if the noise margin drops below a level you can set

Re: Speed through the floor.

Anotherone and I have been discussing your situation and think it all looks pretty good now.
One thing I didn't suggest before is to watch the noise margin while the phone is ringing for an incoming call.

Re: Speed through the floor.

Also, please remember that noise margins drop at night, even if you don't get routerstats up and running, post a copy of your line stats from anytime later this evening, it will help deduce whether at Target SNRM reset to 6dB is likely to be OK.
Edit: Forgot to say, it is known that some filters mess up the CLI signal for Caller Display, I'm surprised that the ones that have come with your new Netgear are that ****. Just for the record are there any identifying marks model version numbers on those filters?

The only No. on the netgear filters is  ACC-107-012    There is  also the no. 31/09.  I suppose there is a remote possibility the problem was sorted simply by the act of unplugging the filter and re-connecting. May check it out.  There is a thread on the subject on  the netgear forum tho.

Re: Speed through the floor.

Thanks for the filter info, might do a bit of investigation, if you come up with anything let us know.
Stats look good, on course for a Target SNRM reduction, if you can post some from during the day say after 0830 but before 1530 that'd be good.
Did you try monitoring the Margin as there was an incoming call ringing on the line?

Re: Speed through the floor.

I did - had to phone myself tho - billy no mates.  No change in the graph, didn't appear to have any effect.  Will try swapping filters again tomorrow and let you know.
