Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Hi,
Reporting on behalf of a friend - account gnomehouse
Seems performance has dropped on his line again - can someone have a look at ticket 35364966.
Things had been stable at 6500 but now it's 130 for download. Looking at his connection speed on the port it seems this has now dropped to 250.
He's tried the master socket and it makes no difference. He has ran the fault checker and is awaiting a response from PN as to the next steps.
Regards,
John

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Hi stallan,
a few things;
these connections over the last week won't have helped

They need to make sure they stay in the test socket while the checks are taking place
The fault was raised at 10 o'clock last night and updates can take up to 72 hours.
I have just ran a line test and they have a good sync rate with a profile of 1500 I have matched our profile to this so they should see an improvement now. This should lift even further should there be no more drops.

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Jojo,
Thanks for the response and information.  I'll take a look at his router over the weekend and make sure it's setup correctly.
Hopefully we can get to the bottom of the matter.
Cheers,
John

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

The events showing in Jojo's post are mainly through the day. I'd suggest checking if he is turning it on and off frequently or if there is some other electrical equipment causing interference.

Will do, but I don't think it's him as he's at work. Could they be drops ?

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

They are drops, but drops are caused by something! Is there nobody in the house during the day?

I don't believe anyone is....
I'll raise that with him when I speak to him.

The next possibility is that it's something one of the neighbours is doing...

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Could it be the line is dropping, rather than it being initiated from his end ?

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Hi Stallan,
It could be many things. If he rules out everything from his side then we will have to see what the faults team make of it.

I suspect a few of those are down to him to trying to get the problem sorted..  I'll discuss and report back..  thanks for the support so far.

HI stallan,
make sure he has definitely performed all the tests required in the faults ticket and maybe look here too.

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

An update on the situation....
Seems internal wiring is the main culprit and tests have proved that. Current temporary setup has produced :-
1. sync of 7616
2. downstream attenuation ot 19 and Noise Margin of 15
3. Upstream attenuation of 5.5 and Noise Margin of 24
4. PN Profile of 6500
5. less crackle when using the phone handset.
The noise margin of 15 flips between 15 and 14 every few minutes on a Routerstats graph (can't post them due to PC access).  What further steps can be taken to reduce the NM or make it more steady ?

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Simple answer: time
Because of the problems BT have raised the target noise margin to try to stabilise the line. If it remains synced with no problems BT will gradually reduce the target - this may take some weeks.
Alternatively, if it has remained stable for a number of days you could ask PN to retrain the line.

Re: Speed Issue again - ticket needs answering

Thanks Jelv..  I was wondering if it would be a waiting game.
I think my friend is going to sort out the wiring on a permanent basis first. Once that is complete I'll suggest he monitors for a few weeks and if no joy, then request a retrain. His exchange is due 21CN next March and I've suggested he gets things stable before moving to that.
