Skype and dropped calls

Anyone else experiencing horendous Skype quality,
I continuosly have calls dropped and much of the conversation is scrambled.
and sounds like its been through the tumble dryer.
A mate of mine in Holland who is actually stealing bandwidth from his neighbours has better quality calls than me?
would plusnet have any influence in my skype call quality?
Do any other plusnet punters have the same issue?

Re: Skype and dropped calls

AFAIK PlusNet would treat Skype calls as having P2P priority traffic rather than high priority - immediate delivery traffic. This would increase delay times (and call quality) during peak hours.
I understand you can sucessfully use Skype on narrow-band (dial-up).
I have tried it between two PC's (one with loudspeakers) - you can get feedback over the internet - quite a high frequency too.

@axisofevil
Isn't Skype classed as VoIP traffic? O.o classing it as P2P would be stupid.

PJ,
Of course speakers are not really viable (except at very low volume) - it's just one of those foolish things you can do to abuse a lot of very hi-tech equipment.
I would think that a high feedback frequency would indicate a short propagation delay Huh

Re: Skype and dropped calls

Hi as requested
My speedtest was fro Plusnet is
Today 20:41 3510 kbps (438.8 KB/s) 240 kbps (30 KB/s)
and my mate in Holland has the following reading
Today 20:43  3227 kbps (403.4 KB/s)  647 kbps (80.9 KB/s)
remember he is "hijacking" his neighbours broadband..
Hope this helps.

Re: Skype and dropped calls

For what it worth, I test my side of the link using: http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/uk/index.html
To date I found their results quite meaningful though it hasn't given me proper guidance why voices are stuttering at either sides from time to time.
