If you want Plusnet to upgrade the service to SoGEA (FTTC without a phone service) then the residual 7 months on the 24 month ADSL contract ought not to be an obstacle.
In another browser tab, login into the Plusnet user portal BEFORE clicking the fault & ticket links

Your TP-Link VX1800v is already VDSL capable.
If you configure both the ADSL and VDSL line settings, then getting Plusnet to upgrade you to SoGEA,
your line should automatically pick up the faster settings, without any wiring changes, or engineer visits.
When Plusnet upgraded my line from ADSL2+ to 80/20 FTTC, I had my modem configured for both,
on the upgrade day I was listening to an online streaming radio station so I would hear the broadband interruption,
but the changeover was so instantaneous that I didn't hear the audio drop (but did appear on my line monitoring graphs).
As Townman said, you don't have to wait to the end of your ADSL contract to upgrade to SoGEA, you just start a new contract from the upgrade completion date.

Now knowing you have a TP-Link VX1800v
while you are still on ADSL, your internet 'experience' is likely to be a bit clunky, and video prone to buffering, etc.
Try setting your router's upstream QoS, and it should make everything smoother, and less prone to stalling.
- Login to the router's web console,
- Navigate to the page shown below,
- Enable QoS,
- initially try setting the "Upstream Bandwidth Limit" to say 950 Kbps
- Set "Scheduling Strategy" to PQ
- Then click [Save]
