Request for full line test

Hi,
I’ve been experiencing unstable ping and high latency spikes on my Plusnet broadband, although my download and upload speeds look normal.

Could you please run a full line quality / noise test to check for any interference or copper line degradation (SNR margin or errors on the line)?

I prefer not to call, so an online response would be great. Thank you!

@Chengmingchang I doubt a 'full line test' will determine your issues. Is  this  having any detrimental effect on your actual online experience?

Which service are you on, and which router are you using?

Re: Request for full line test

Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, it’s having a noticeable impact — I’m seeing regular ping spikes (from ~20 ms up to 100 ms or more) when gaming and also occasional buffering on streaming services like Apple TV, even when overall speeds look stable.

I’m on a Plusnet Fibre (FTTC) broadband connection using the Plusnet Hub Two router.

I’ve already tested with Wi-Fi off and using a direct Ethernet connection; the latency spikes are still present, so I suspect some line-level noise or SNR fluctuation rather than local network load.

Could you please still run the line quality test or SNR check on your side? It would help confirm whether the copper line has any interference or instability.

Thank you!

Re: Request for full line test

I am not Plusnet staff, so no, I can't run any tests. Sight of your Technical Log>Information screen, with personal details removed, would be useful - possibly, although ping/latency issues are  hard to track down.

Re: Request for full line test

Thank you for that.  Nothing particularly strange there, although the D/S noise margin looks a little low for the reported attenuation figures.

This is not really my area of expertise, but maybe others have more knowledge. @Dan_the_Van  / @MisterW ?
