Power socket- will Plusnet allow me to use extension cable as power socket when installing?

I’m thinking of changing my broadband provider to Plusnet. I can see that they require me to have a power socket nearby to where they drill into my home. I live in an old terrace with few power sockets. The front room where I’d have the router has only two sockets and they are at the opposite side of the room to the wall where the engineer would insert the cable. So I’d need to run an extension cable to plug the kit into. In addition I’d need to use the extension cable because I can’t afford to tie both sockets up as then I’d have no where to plug tv etc..

Can anyone advise as to whether the engineer would be happy to use an extension cable to plug the kit he installs into please (as opposed to the wall power socket)?

@Avs

If you're getting Full Fibre installed the the router can go anywhere you're happy to run Ethernet cable (used between the OR ONT and the Router).

There is also the possibility of running the fibre optic cable along the skirting board to a more suitable location for the ONT.

When it gets released from moderation, the following picture shows my incoming cable. The ONT is on the back wall of the living room.

@Avs

Further to my last reply I believe you can get conversion kits to convert 2 gang sockets to 3 gang.

Alternatively, consider getting someone in to add a second double socket beside the existing socket.

@Avs   Welcome to the Plusnet Community Fora.

There’s no reason why an extension can’t be used. Get the installer to run the fibre around the room to the power sockets, I understand that the maximum distance between the external CSP and ONT location is10m. If you leave the mains socket clear for when they come then there is no question to answer. Once they have left, any use of extension sockets is entirely up to you.
