Multiple disconnects ADSL2+

Anyone else having problems?

Since late last night disconnects have been happening every few minutes, one even had an SNRM of -0.6!

The router system log is normally excellent but from 2 disconnects ago it's blank which makes me suspicious of a router fault. OTOH, we've a lot of very heavy rain.....

I'll be trying a reset soon.

"we've a lot of very heavy rain"  .... suggesting an external line or junction fault.

You might be able to hear noise via 17070 & a Quiet Line Test.

Have you got an plan for a replacement of the ADSL2+ & the phone after the services end in Jan 2027 ?

Re: Multiple disconnects ADSL2+

Philip, yes we've been there before but the fault was only found after my pestering PN & Openreach with my suggestion after all else had been eliminated.

Done QLTs before but not now so thanks for the reminder.

I am soon going FTTP initially with PN and ditching the fixed line. ITM, this problem needs to be sorted. I will contact PN if a router restart and replacement with a backup identical model (Billion 7800DXL) doesn't work.

Actually, the connection has been up for nearly an hour (!) so I will wait for the next disconnect.

@Mardler

Is there anything stopping you upgrading now - sort your connection out once and for all.

@Mardler

As you only need a short term fix, given there are only 65 working days until ADSL ends in January, or 44 until Christmas,

if I were you, try using the 7800DXL target SNR tweak feature, to drag your noise margin to a level that holds the connection.

The router is clearly doing a good job holding on to the line if the SNR got as low as -0.6dB

although I think my modem's record for lowest SNR is still safe, when the line held stable for days at -5dB SNR !

XF9, that's why I have a Billion. Bought mainly for stability with SNRM tweaking a close second. I have been using the Auto setting for ages since our exchange and copper line were improved.

Re: Multiple disconnects ADSL2+

With reference to my comment above re waiting a while, the connection has been up for 2h 20m so I'm going to leave it until the next drop.

It might have been an exchange problem after all however the blank logs remain potentially problematic.

Current d/l stat is 23225.

Re: Multiple disconnects ADSL2+

Hopefully, closure on this saga.

Following more disconnects at 13:45-14:00 (a series of them) and at 17:48 & 17:50 the connection has remained up.

You will have noticed my exact timings, that's because the router system log is back.

Fingers crossed!

Now to get back, slowly, to organising the switch to FTTP.

@Mardler

Don't be too slow organising FTTP,  in many areas Openreach FTTP installation lead times are four to six weeks,  while at the same time several ADSL users on here have already received their 30 day notice from Plusnet notifying of transfer to EE or service termination.

Yesterday, this post reported an earliest FTTP installation date of 18th January 2027, which is a bit tight for the ADSL deadline !

EF9: thanks for that info.
