which product are you on?
It could be you are provisioned to 40/10, your line looks to be able to support 80/20.
You appear to be close to the street cabinet
did you notice the DSL uptime?

@Dan_the_Van It would be useful to know the OP's provision, but the d/s SNR is somewhat higher than I would expect even if they are close to the street cab. Yes, I did notice the uptime.

OK, it sounds like you are actually on Unlimited Fibre Extra, if you have seen speeds in excess of 40, but your line is capable of much more. As I said above you u/s SNR figure of 20.3 is suspiciously high, even allowing for you proximity to the cab.

@jab1 The op states he is on unlimited fibre which is the 40/10 service and that's exactly what the router stats are showing. The SNR figures are high because the line is capable of higher speeds but restricted by the 40/10 cap. There is nothing suspicious going on.

@RealAleMadrid But he says he has seen 50Mb/s - which suggests he is on a 80/20 connection - to me. I may be wrong, in which case I'll bow out.

@jab1 All I'm saying is the connection looks like a 40/10 service, it is unlikely that the product changed from fibre extra to standard fibre when re-contracted. On fibre extra speeds of 70Mbps would be expected.

Fair enough, and I agree they should be seeing 70+ on an 80/20 service.

I feel i may have caused some confusion.
the product i have from the broadband section of my member centre is Unlimited Fibre inc. Line rental
and from my renewal email, it should give me a minimum of 29.2mbps and about 38-40 at peak times. i think ive seen 50 in the past, but now not sure. you dont tend to test things when theyre working at their best.
did just have another freeze up. first two attempts failed by not being able to get an internet connection, third came in at 17mbps

Thanks for the confirmation of your product. Are you running wired or wireless?

Seems to me that there is more than one issue here:
1. The service is provisioned on 40/10 when the line is perfectly capable of 80/20. This is not a fault per se so the fault bot will not detect it. It needs Plusnet to reprovision the line. If Plusnet won't do it then @Benjack should raise a complaint.
2. I suspect that devices are using a wireless link and that is the source of the original complaint. This is outside of the responsibility of Plusnet. @Benjack if this is the case are you able to test over an Ethernet cable? If necessary, long CAT5e Ethernet cables that can be used temporarily cost very little money.

I also say the continued 'landland' element of the current contract needs to be reviewed, at some point @Benjack will receive a communication regarding the PSTN (Public Switch Telephone Network) service is being withdraw.
I would say rather than complaining, work towards an alternative to the current situation.
I would look towards upgrading to Part Fibre/SoGEA and if required migrate the landline phone number to a VoIP provider like
https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/ there are others.
or
If preferred move to EE who would provide a internet and digital phone service.
Edit: the priority would be for now to resolve the current speed issues.
