Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

Same as mine.

I will add DNS monitoring to my "it would be interesting" to do list.  In the meantime, someone is following up on my question in the super user chat area.

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

Hi @TheMightyAJ @Townman

Just a quick update as promised.

The change of DNS would appear to have resolved my issue.

Thank you for your help and input, it is much appreciated.

Alex,

I've followed this up on the SU boards ... there is indeed something needing review.

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

Im having a similar problem on my line that intermittently the devices on my network drop out, reporting DNS issues at various times of the day. This again has started around 3 weeks ago and has progressively got worse.

To clarify my networks has not be changed in over a year.

I have started a running a constant test this morning and has reported 4 outages already in 4 hours lasting up to a minute.

Something I have noticed is the latency starts to build before an outage and reminds me of a similar issue that I had when I was with BT.

Could someone from Plus net check the VLAN within the exchange for over provisioning i have a feeling that in my case with the latency increasing that the back haul network is at capacity and has started to drop network packets and as DNS packets are the first to be sent in most operation could cause problems.

For clarity i have always used googles DNS servers rather than plus net

Hey @duckettp,

I'm sorry to hear that you've run into similar issues. I'm just running a test on your line and noticed that the test isn't recognizing your router - are you using a Plusnet Hub One or a 3rd party router that you've setup yourself?

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

Yep I'm running a Draytek Vigor 130 Modem (BT SIN 498 compliant) in bridge mode terminating into a Unifi UDM pro to handle  PPPOE connection

The modem is showing a stable VDSL line at 79,999 and 20,000 with 9db SNR

But still getting:

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

Thanks for confirming that @duckettp. Do you have our router to hand? If so, please could you try setting it up to see if there's any difference?

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

@duckettp @DerekW & @plustrev - how are things looking now?

There was some work carried out over the festive period and my personal monitoring looks much better now, displaying zero loss and decent round trip times for the Plusnet DNS resolvers.

Hi Bob,

As I said earlier in the thread I changed the DNS on my router which resolved the issue for me.

I have not changed them back since.

Cheers,

Derek

Re: Internet Connection Intermittent Drop Outs

@DerekW - well if you ever feel like changing them back, let me know how it goes. In theory, our DNS servers should be marginally quicker to respond (when working without issue!)
