I have no idea what MTU is. Is that what my problem is?

I don't know your router, MickKi seems to be the guy that can tell you how to access and change the setting. The BT end is supposed to cope with 1500 ok these days.
Being a suspicious sort of chap, it's strange that these events happen over a w/e. Reading throught this thread, I get the impression that you wireless connection may not have been secure and I'm wondering if someone's been hacking in and messing around. When you've sorted this, make sure your wireless is well locked down, change router passwords etc. just to be sure.

Quote from: Jessica I just had another disconnection. Here’s the log for that period. What does this mean “LCP terminated by peer”.
This means that the Link Control Protocol handshake with your ISP failed (could be for a number of reasons).
Quote from: Jessica Sat, 2008-07-05 10:24:48 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Sat, 2008-07-05 10:24:48 - Couldn't increase MTU to 32725
Hmm, not sure that this MTU* message is correct. Can you please check your router admin pages and find the field that determines the size of the MTU value? Then set it to 1500, or 1458.
The low(er) profile could have been obtained either because of a resync at a lower speed (e.g. caused by a noisy line) or because your router connection has been flapping and the BT exchange equipment increased your SNRM to stabilise it. This would invariably result in lower connection speeds.
I cannot understand what causes this MTU message in your logs. I wonder if the firmware upgrade did not complete properly and the ROM image was corrupted somehow. You could try to re-upgrade your router firmware. Download a fresh firmware image from the LinkSYS website for your device, then unzip it on your desktop and then connect to your router's admin GUI with your browser and upgrade the firmware from there. Give it all the time it needs to complete, until it reboots and reconnects all on its own - do not interupt the upgrade process no matter what.
* MTU = Maximum Transmission Unit. It determines the size of data packets that your router can receive without packet fragmentation. It can affect the speed of your connection and whether some web pages load or not. (Typically, cable or ethernet MTU size is 1500, ADSL is 1500 or 1458, PPPoE is 1492. MS Windows ethernet connections are set by default at 1500, while MS Windows PPPoE WAN Miniport is set at 1492. You must set your PC's MTU at the same value as your router - in that sense most people leave both router and PC at the default of 1500.)
EDIT: Oops, sorry for duplicate info - just noticed the flurry of messages from Anotherone this morning!

My MTU is 1500. (see attached pic)
Thanks for the PM. I’ve just ordered the Speedtouch. Lets hope it is a modem problem. If it all goes wrong, I’ll blame you. Remember – I know where you live..
Also, I've reverted back to an earlier firmware, just in case. I'm now using v1.01.01. I've also read bad things about the latest firmware.

What's in the drop down menu above it, that currently shows "Auto"?

You do?!

OK, in that case you will probably find that DMT-Tool works and you can capture the SNR margin and sync speeds to see how the darn thing fails.

To connect to your router with telnet on port 23 (which is what DMT needs) you need to enable the telnet service on your router. Open a browser and type this in the address bar:
http://192.168.1.1/?todo=debug
After that DMT 'should' be able to connect.

DMT now gives an error message:-
“Error: can not identify modemtype. DMT version 8.07 for BCM6338/6348/6358”
Have I downloaded the right version of DMT for my Linksys WAG54GS?
What should my 'Logon' name and 'Password' be for DMT?

Quote from: Jessica Done all that..
Not sure you have . . . I think that the screenshot shows you have set up port forwarding so that other computers on the Internet can access your router! I suggest that you disable this pronto, as it exposes your machine to all sorts of malicious hacking.
Trying running http://192.168.1.1/?todo=debug in your browser as I suggested and then check that you can connect to your router from within your LAN. On your PC go to Start/Run and type cmd.exe. Then in the console window that opens type:
telnet 192.168.1.1or,
telnet 192.168.1.1 23
If you can login into your router you ought to see something about busybox and a root prompt #:
Trying 192.168.1.1...
Connected to 192.168.1.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
BusyBox v1.00 (2008.07.05-19:08+0000) Built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
#
Type exit or logout, to exit and try to connect again with the DMT tool.
DMT now gives an error message:-
Quote from: Jessica “Error: can not identify modemtype. DMT version 8.07 for BCM6338/6348/6358”
Have I downloaded the right version of DMT for my Linksys WAG54GS?
I believe that DMT works with your Linksys, but will check again now.
Quote from: Jessica What should my 'Logon' name and 'Password' be for DMT?
It should be the same login name and passwd that you use to login on the router admin GUI in your browser. I think that the default setting is admin/admin.

# adslctl info --stats
If you don't get a list of modem stats then DMT won't work either.

Thanks for being there. Plusnet must have given up on me.
I’ve got the right version of DMT. Used admin/admin for logon and password. I still get the same error message. Although, when I click on the ‘Aktivieren’ button, it says on the bottom of the screen “Automatic DSL-Monitoring is activated”. But, when I click on the ‘Connect’ button, it make a funny noise then the error message.
I get this far:-
