House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Hi All
I noticed my broadband activated on Friday night, so I wonder is the slow speed down to the fact your meant to wait for like 10 days before it settles.
Even so, I was expecting it to be a hell of a lot faster than I am seeing so far. My connection is maxing out at 700Kbps which is aful when I was being told by several ISP's (Sky, Plus net, AAISP, BE) I should be expecting at least 12mbps down speed.
Would anyone expect this level of speed to kick in by the end of this week (10 days from first activation) or should I be raising a support call now to get it looked into.

Ugh with this pic resize... original readable link below

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

First it looks like you are on ADSL1 and not ADSL2+ by the sync rate of 8128. You may have to wait until the 10 day testing period has completed before a change can be made, which plusnet should be able to do, although you may have to ask to be changed to ADSL2+. Once on ADSL2+ your speeds should be higher..
What actual speed is possible is determined by your line conditions. What are the line stats from the router (SNR, Line attenuation etc)? ALso state what IP profile has been set on Plusnets side (on member centre-> connection settings-> High Speed Broadband)

Hi
The IP Profile is totally incorrect, I do not live in Walton anymore, i moved house thus why I did a house move with plus net which I was told was complete. Obviously not.

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

The only important part on the high speed broadband page is the Current line speed, which is plusnets IP profile setting, the other info makes no difference and is unlikely to change so just ignore them. The plusnet IP profile is correct for your current speed.
Your router stats also confirm you are still on ADSL1 (G.DMT). The line stats also show you have more speed to come when you are moved to ADSL2+. If a Plusnet rep sees this they may be able to do the switch but it may not be possible yet if the 10 day trialling period is still in progress. You will just have to be paient and let things take their course.

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Just called support and someone is going to look into switching me to ADSL2+ as the line and router support it.  Smiley

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 11.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 10Mbps and 13Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 11.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 10Mbps and 13Mbps.

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Hi there,
It looks like the original order was rejected as it was placed incorrectly, sorry about that. I've now replaced the order for you and will check it later to confirm everything's alright, I'll update you then.

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Cheers Matt.
Can we check everything is as it should be now in case there was anything else missed. Just want to make sure anything that can help make it faster your end is done.
Thanks  Smiley

Just double checked it and it's definitely been accepted, so should be on for you in a week or so Smiley

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Hopefully that will start giving me speeds closer to what I've been told. Thanks for doing that Matt.
Is there much else plus net can do on their end regarding speeds if this isn't hitting the max it can?

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Not really if the IP profiles are matching the sync speeds you will get.
Often improvements in the home wiring / set-up can be beneficial - things like removing the ring wire or fitting a filtered faceplate on your master socket can reduce line attenuation / improve SNR and thus achieve a better sync rate.
You can check if it is internal wiring slowing the connection by connecting the router to the test socket, which can be fund behind the lower user-removable panel on your master socket. This isolates any internal phones / wires and if you get a better sync then you need to look at your wiring.

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Hey Peter
The first thing I do when I move into any new house is remove the faceplate and get the router straight into the master socket.
Those SNR readings are from the router hooked into the master, so if you see any room for improvement from this please let me know (I can modify these settings from the router).
Thanks

Re: House Move... Quoted speeds of 12mbps - 20mbps not near being hit.

Sad
I heard this has failed again and is now pushed back to the 21st October!
I know members of support are watching it but who is responsible for these fails in the first place?  Is it BT?  No one is even telling me how/why they are failing.
It is truly is not acceptable.
