Yes, I'll try this before trying to replace the faceplate. We've recently moved the bedroom around so it's possible we've inadvertently damaged this cable under the carpet without realising it. In any case I'll try removing this from the faceplate next!

Sightly off tangent but have you checked recently if Full Fibre is coming to you soon? See www.openreach.co.uk

Hey @bmc ,
Yes, FFTP is now available where I live, so I'm able to step into the 21st century.. just need to sort it out!

If Full Fibre is available then I wouldn't spend any money on sorting out your current service. Just upgrade asap.
The following video gives an idea ofwhat's invilved. Note it wrong re power sockets - the router connects via ethernet cable so can go anywhere you're happy to run said cable.

I wouldn't rely too much on Openreach's checker. According to them Full Fibre is available at my address. Far from it, and there are no plans in the pipeline. FTTC only at the moment.

Following on from the post by @newagetraveller have a look at the Checker.
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
What does it say to the right of WBC FTTP and what does it say about the FTTP install in the narrative below the results window?
You can also login to your PN Members page and see what's on Offer as an upgrade.

@injuredFish Which FTTP network do you have access to ?, as it isn't Openreach according to your results in Message #6

Apologies - I forgot about that.
Full Fibre isn't available from OpenReach. What is showing is FTTP on Demand - this is an expensive way of getting Full Fibre (you pay costs) and very few ISP's offer a product. It's only really suited for business or the rich.
What does OR say for your address - www.openreach.co.uk

Where have you got to with your original issue ?
Have you removed the extension wires from the removable faceplate ?
or are you going to leave the faceplate off and run your broadband from the TEST SOCKET for the optimum connection ?
Even if your connection has returned to it's previous pre-fault speeds, as your upload speed will still be less than 10Mbps, I would still recommend running the test in Message #10 and posting here the result. Then tune the Asus DSL-AC68U upload and download bandwidth limiters, until the "Upload Active" and "Download Active" values are both just below 30ms. By tuning the active latency numbers to below 30ms, that should give your internet usage better responsiveness and much less lag but without reducing your limited bandwidth by too much.
